hi i had my pd catheter fitted 7/09/2010 1st flush went really well ,i went last wk and for some reason it wouldnt drain but they could put stuff in no problem they checked for fibrin and that was ok so i was sent for an xray which the nurse said my pipe looked ok cos she as saw loads in the same postion as mine and theres still drained so they told me to take picolax for 2days to see if that helps anybody else had the same problem.

My Cath flipped once and was pointed up. I couldnt drain but i could fill. I had xray done to prove the cath had slipped up. They were gonna do surgeury to fix it but once they gave me the twilight drugs it had fixed itself.
Im not sure why they wont put one or two st9iches to hold the cath in place. The stomach belly area is alive and moving all the time. This is why and how caths get moved around.
I know after the last drain of the night i have to stand up and do a manuel drain to get most everything out. Check again for fibrin?? Do you see ANYTHING in your drain bag? Is the liquid super clear?
Try lying on your side while draining?
Gooid Luck

Karina, these things can happen when you first have a catheter in. If they have done an x-ray and all is well it could be you are constipated. We think because we go every day that we are not. "that is not the case" They want you to be going about 2-3 times day. The pickolax is or-some , do not move far from a loo. Make sure you take all your softeners and senna tablets regular. I hope things get easier for you.If you know what I mean.

big thank you im not doin dialysis yet with my hospital (queen elizabeth birmingham) they do 4 flushes before you start then i should have a week training on how to do things myself at home but i got to my 2nd flush when things went awol they could put stuff in but couldnt get any out i did have a bit ov fibrin but she got that out with a syringe but wasnt given heprin was sent for xray but the one nurse did say she as saw a few people with thier cath in the same place as mine and it and had no problems with it so now im getting worried dont really want haemo if i can help it.

what is the twlight drug if you dont mind me asking. :thx;

Twilight drug (dont know real name) just is a drug that makes you sleepy so the docs can do a simple procedure without totaly knocking you out.
If they saw fibrin they should have given you heprin. it will basicaly melt the fibrin so it wont block your access while draining. it is easier for the solution to go in then it is to come out.
Good Luck

hi all ive been back to the hospital today they did my flush and today it seemed to ov drained much better but the dr said it isnt draining very good cos the cath is kinked n need to av another operation :( to sort it but today is the only time they managed to get the fluid back out so confused.

My husband had the same problem.It was his second cath he had to have his first one pulled because of peritonitis, long story. any way his cath was not positioned right, it took ages to drain. His neph wanted him to go back in and have it adjusted, but because of his heart condition the anesthetist refused to let him have it done. Eight months down the line he still hasn't had it done, but for some reason i.e it has righted its self, it is working fine.It takes about 30 minutes to manually drain and he is on an over night machine and doing fine. Dont worry about yours they will get it right, might take a while but hey you will be ok.

Glad you got it done, hope you feel ok. i think the blood thing is just crap from the operation. It will settle down. Do you have to change your dressing or have you got to leave it on for a while.
