I'd like to introduce myself...I'm 75 years old and 6 weeks into HD with the object of home dialysis by December. I've had kidney disease for many years, had about 25% function 5 years ago and had open heart surgery then but earlier this year I got down to 6% and was a very sick man. But I've bitten the bullet, have a fistula on my left wrist and am into self cannulation using button hole access.
And I feel like a million dollars! I feel sooo good!
I don't know why I put dialysis off for so long.
(Yes, I do...I was scared witless)

:welcomesign; Bruno. Most of us here can relate to the "scared witless" feeling. My husband is now on home hemo with the NxStage and doing well. Glad to have you join our group. There are a lot of great people on this site that will offer support, advice and friendship.

G'day Bruno and :welcomesign;. I'm an old Sydney boy now living up the bush. This is a great spot and you will enjoy yourself here.

:welcomesign; So glad you found us, Bruno. I met a 73-year-old man during my testing for "the list" in 2007 and we became great friends. He was already on dialysis and was also testing for "the list". He transplanted with a living donor just one month after me at the end of 2008. It was great going through it together. I'm so glad dialysis is making you feel great! That is so good to hear. :waving;

Welcome to our community, Bruno! And a special welcome from one born under and living under the Union Jack (born in Barbados, living in the British Virgin Islands). I am with you. Even though we hate dialysis, we have to admit that it beats our previous situation! I am so proud of you self-cannulating! (could never do it myself!) Keep on reading and keep on posting. This is a wonderful family that you now find yourself a member of :grouphug; - a group of lovely sharing and caring people. Looking forward to hearing more from you.
