Where to start??? My husband was diagnosed with ESRD last September! It has been one crazy year. He started dialysis on Thanksgiving day in the center. We completed the inhome hemo training last July. It has been quite a process. Many more challenges than we expected.
I accidently found this website last week and think I read every post in the entire site! It was so reassuring to hear that we are not alone. Everytime I think that we have gotten past the needle/buttonhole problems and the alarm problems, something new happens!
Currently, our latest 'issue' is that he has a major rash over his access arm. It itches like crazy and makes him mieserable. RNs keep suggesting cream, but nothing seems to help. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi:
Welcome !!!!
When you see your Neph. ask him about the old standby Triamcinolone Cream ( Brand nane - Kenalog). I find it
really works well. You need a script, but it is not very expensive (if you get the generic).
-
Thank you! Will do. I appreciate the info!

Could he be alergic to whatever you are cleaning his arm with prior to treatment. I know I am alergic to the clora-prep my center normally uses. I got all rashey and itchy from it. Now I have to use Ex-cept or betadyne. Even some of the tape and band aides break me out. Just an idea.

:welcomesign; :waving; I found th is site by accident, too. Best accident that's ever happened to me! Good Luck with the rash. I'm glad he's able to do dialysis at home.

Hi lillinny, and welcome to IHD. I'm so glad you found us. Spread the word to your dialysis friends.
A last resort would be to see if he is alergic to the needles. Some people have to go to titanium which are very expensive so they don't like to tell you about them.

WElcome to our community, lillinny! (that is a very cute screen name) I am so glad that you found us. I do hope that your husband gets relief from the itching. I am sure that I don't have to tell you that this is a great site for information, support and encouragement. We even have a section for you, for caregivers and loved ones - check it out. You are now part of our IHD family :grouphug; one of the most wonderful set of people I have ever met (and I have met some of them!)
Just keep reading and keep posting. Let us know how your husband is doing.
