Great Discoveries: UCSF Organ Transplant Experience
Here's a program called "UCSF Organ Transplant Experience," an excellent program about transplantation. It
first aired on March 15, 2006, and like a lot of these types of programs, it aired again on DishNetwork this month.
It's a lecture by the head of transplant surgery for the University of California San Francisco Medical Center which
does lots of transplants. The physician's description of the history of transplantation was fascinating, as was the
information about kidney transplantation. The first kidney recipients had kidneys transplanted into their thighs! So
that's where they peed from! (I'm not kidding.)
Dr. Nancy Ascher, chair of the UCSF Department of Surgery, has devoted her career to organ transplants and
transplant research. Learn more about organ transplant at UCSF Medical Center, a service that began in the 1960s.

Hey, thanks for the link. I recognize Dr. Ascher from a recent visit to UCSF. Dr. Ascher was in attendance when I chewed out the transplant team about how my course of treatment was going (we were trying to save my transplant...). Dr. Ascher seemed to respect my concerns and things instantly improved in my case.
