we have been told Otto should not come in close contact with someone who used a live virus....Our kids didn't get chicken pox shot since it's live and they get the flu shot not the nasal one because that's a live virus.????

Like has already been said, not if they got live vacinations.  Right before (like days or weeks) I transplanted my step grandchildren both got some immunizations.  My doc confirmed I couldn't see them for six weeks (I think) if they received live vacinations.  Maybe six months?  Can't remember now.

How about if someone gets the nasal (live) flu vaccine, and you've already had that season's flu shot? What if it's only been a couple weeks since you got the flu shot?

I have never avoided my children after a vaccine - never had that luxury! Both my kids had the nasal flu vax and I was fine, although this year I will likely keep more distance since I am on much higher doses of immunosuppressants at the moment.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.

All I was told was no "live" vacinations/immunizations.  Ask your doctor to be 100% sure.

I was told the same thing - no going near any child who had received a live vac for 6 weeks.  May not be realistic in practice, but if you are aware of it, why take the chance?

One of those cases where it's just not realistic, I guess, gothic.  Although telling you to give your kid a flu shot instead of the live nasal vaccine might have been helpful!

While in the hospital, they told my family no children around who had live vaccines for 6 weeks.  And they adviced all the grandchildren to get flu shots, not the live flu mist.    I agree with Jbeany -- why take a chance?   I would rather just stay away.

Spoke to neph today ,if child has had chickenpox, MMR shot(measles, mumps, ruebella)or flu mist vaccine not to be in contact with them for two weeks. Those are the only 3 to be careful around.Hope this helps..Chris

Agree with all those already posted. When I go get my flu shot i make sure to tell them that I live with someone that is on a transplant list. They should know that you need the dead (not live) immunization, or the shot not the nasal.
