Post by: Dodgedude2001 on August 21, 2010, 10:08:27 PM
Ok so dialysis is like 1700 bucks every time I go, iron is 550 bucks, e-po is 800 bucks an syringes are like 75 buck...they charge me that 3 times a week!!

BUT yet they cant get my TV to work because it cost to much??? I know it must cost a few bucks to run a dialysis center, but really??? The boss at my center I dont think her gets that we are stuck in that chair. We cant get up an go get pop, have a smoke, talk to people, go for a walk.....

Im just kind of pissed because its crap how they (the center) can think they can take our cash an treat us like crap... :rant;

 :thumbup; Amen!
Patients are usually afraid to ask for what they need. I understand this because it risks you being labeled as "difficult." BUT... Uncomfortable chairs, crappy tv, lazy techs, rude staff, too many rules, shift changes, lousy bandages,  - it's not right - gotta speak up - nice and firm - you're the customer.

Same here in NZ.. everything is free. I really do think it's unfair for people who have to pay.. when they already have all this to deal with  :(

I speak up all the time about this stuff. I got the boot from my last center because the FA was a lazy b#&^h an would not fix anything and I was the bad guy for sayin anything! I told the Dr., he told her, she still didnt do anything! Im back at my new-old center an the still think Im an ass-hole because I say stuff all the time. I was thinking of sending Obama a copy of my statment an let him see how much they are trying to rip the system off! It may not fix my TV, but hell....if I can help the U.S. save 10-15mill a year my job is done!!

Dodgedude2001,
I am assuming you mean that your insurance and Medicare pay for your treatments? Or are you actually paying cash, as you say.
Other countries have "free" healthcare, but isn't it paid for by a high tax rate? I need to take an economics class, I don't know how it all works in NZ and Canada.  :P

Yes, Okarol, their taxes are higher.  Years ago, England had a 17% sales tax and as a visitor, we could apply for a refund of part of any sales tax we paid while in England because we weren't intitled to any of their government services.   Can you imagine if the US started putting that kind of sales tax on everything? We would all scream bloody murder.     We want "free" medical services but don't want our taxes raised.   How does that work??      :rofl;

Dodgedude,  I also hope the insurances or Medicare is paying for at least most of the bills.  I can't imagine how anyone could pay out of pocket for very long.    I hope things get better at your center.

Canada, taxes and medical costs.

It is a common misperception (usually re-inforced during Healthcare debates in the US) that Canadian taxes are "higher" than the US. That is just plain not true. In isolation some taxes are higher but overall the tax burden is very similar. Then when you add the $1,000 plus per month that medical insurance costs to the taxes paid by the average US family the "tax burden" in Canada looks very attractive.

The key differance between the two systems is that Canada has no Aircraft carriers, etc (Defense spending is not our first priority rather Healthcare and Education are our first priorities)
