Title: Do pain meds get taken out of system during Dialysis
Post by: Dianejt on August 12, 2010, 07:58:32 PM
My husband just started a Fentinal pain patch. He felt good all night & morning until dialysis yesterday, then the pain started up again. The nurse questioned whether or not dialysis takes the meds out of the system. What do you think?

I have asked the same question and was told ..it depends on what drug it is and the dosage.

Not sure about fentanyl. Your neph would certainly be able to tell you.

We have a guy in our dialysis unit from the psych ward and they sedate him heavily before he comes to dialysis. By the time he is in his last hour of treatment, he's as wild as can be.
One time he stood up on his chair and was kicking out and spitting at anyone who came close to get him down. They called a Code White and  eventually they got him down.
