Hi! I am a 6 year survivor of a live donor transplant after some lengthy time on dialysis. I was on home peritoneal dialysis right up to my transplant and managed to work throughout the entire ordeal. Of some note is the fact that I am the only person in Canada to have received a live donor kidney from a person I met through a matching website. I have worked with my doctors and forms of media to get my story broadcast in the hopes that others would also benefit from my success. My story has been on the CBC National news, had a CBC 30 minute radio special, on local tv and radio as well as on radio debate programs from coast to coast in Canada. We have had some successes in the area of non-directed live donor programs being instituted and the National debate regarding live/cadaverous organ donation has become somewhat marginally louder I think in part to our efforts.
I joined this site some time ago and forgot about it :banghead; until I got the email about the contest and 5th Birthday. Thought I'd say hi again.
