I've been on home nocturnal dialysis for nearly six years. It is the only renal replacement therapy I have ever used. I'm 53 years old, married and with a teenage daughter. My wife is profoundly disabled from multiple sclerosis. I live in Toronto, Canada. In 2002 I discontinued my law practice and have not worked since. Nocturnal hemodialysis has been very effective for me, and as a result I am not eager for a transplant. I maintain my eligibility on the transplant list, but I'm very ambivalent about actually having a transplant.

Hey Mogee. I'm so glad you found us. I think you will find this site interesting. Lots of new things everyday. Yes, you do have the best replacement therapy "home Nocturnal"..... in my openion. I've had a transplant and it lasted 17 years and it was great, but I'm not standing in line for another one.
I hope you are active on this site.

Mogee:
I am your age and just started home nocturnal hemo 8 hours x 6 nights per week. I grew up in Toronto and originally was diagnosed with kidney disease there.
Now I am living in Calgary, struggling with dialysis while waiting for a transplant.
Feel free to check out the Dialyzing in Canada thread in the General Discussion section.

Welcome, Mogee! I'm ambivalent about a transplant also, am on HD for 2 years, PD for 3 before that.

Welcome!
I used to live in Toronto before moving up to the Collingwood area 9 yrs ago. Lovin' it!!
I am with Dr Chan at TGH and have been doing nocturnal home hemo for almost 3 yrs after being on PD for 10 and transplanted for 15 prior to that!
I wish I could have another transplant but I'm not eligible at this time...maybe down the road though.
In the meantime I'm doing very well on hemo, though I've become an addict and dialyze 7 days/wk most weeks.

:welcomesign; another Canadian here. I'm a few years older than you and also a TGH patient in Toronto, although I'm now on my second transplant. Dr. Cole is my primary neph but while I was back on dialysis between transplants I was with Dr Richardson.
See you around IHD.

Welcome to our community, Mogee. I really like the idea of nocturnal dialysis, but sadly, the only kind of dialysis offered here (British Virgin Islands) is the 3 day a week, 3 - 5 hours dialysis. But, it is keeping us alive! Please take advantage of all this site has to offer - information, support and a place to rant, rave, rage and vent. Looking forward to hearing from you.
