MADISON, Wisc.— Kidney School, an online education program for people with stages 3–5 chronic kidney disease (CKD), has made a free audio book in MP3 format available at www.kidneyschool.org.

Users can also listen from their browser by clicking "listen now."

"The audio book format allows us to make this unique resource more accessible to people who have trouble reading due to vision problems or limited literacy," said Dori Schatell, Executive Director of the Medical Education Institute (MEI). "We are always excited to find new ways to bring evidence-based information about CKD to people who need it. Kidney School also meets the CMS Conditions for Coverage requirements for patient education."

The new audio book is narrated by emeritus Life Options Rehabilitation Advisory Council members Nancy Spaeth and Brian O'Moore. Both have had kidney failure for many years and have personal experience with many of the symptoms, treatments, and medications described in Kidney School.

Kidney School teaches patients how to self-manage their CKD, and includes modules on topics from treatment options and diet to staying active and long-term complications.

Sponsorship for Kidney School is provided by an exclusive, unrestricted educational grant from Fresenius Medical Care North America. All content has been written and reviewed by a multidisciplinary team of experts, and has not been influenced by the sponsor, according to MEI.
