Title: 4 Month eval
Post by: edersham on July 24, 2010, 12:40:31 PM
Hi Folks,

Just an update. I just got back from 3 days at Mayo in Phoenix for my 4 mo evaluation. The biopsy was perfect, same as one month biopsy. Everything else was normal except for low white blood cell count which means back off the cellcept and continue the prednisone(only 5mg) for a while. Also had negative results for CMV so I'm off valcyte and bactrim as they may be contributing to the low wbc.  Overall very good news and the head of the transplant department predicted that my chances for long term survival of the graft are very good.  I'm also the lead guinea pig(first to reach 4 months) on a study drug to improve bone health after transplant. So far the results are so good they believe that within a year it will become part of the standard protocol at Mayo.
Also, I told the department head about ihd and the transplant stories section and how helpful and supportive it is  to those trying to get listed, waiting for transplant and after transplant. He was very interested andsaid he was going to visit the site and read the stories. He has authored a lot of papers in the New England Journal and elsewhere so I figure he will benefit from reading our stories.
