Title: Hello from Australia
Post by: sumalee on July 22, 2010, 06:24:04 PM
Hello everyone
My name is Sumalee I am 48 years old have a kidney disease Glomerrulonephritis not sure if I spell right. I am now on APD I have been on since November 2008 and on a waiting list for a kidney transplant. PD is working well for me but it is not easy to sleep with a dialysis machine every night and waiting for a phone call. I don't have any family in Australia accept my 2 sons. I live with my 17 years old son but he doesn't understand my condition and how I feel. I am glad to find your site I hope to make some new friends to support each others.

Thank you for having me here and I am looking forward to get to know everyone.

Welcome to IHD Sumalee.
I am also an Aussie and found this site about a month ago and LOVE it. It is a very supportive community with loads of info, stories and humour. Just checking in every few days helps me cope better. Hope you find the same.
I've always been a good sleeper and am missing the deep sleep I used to have and am just glad of any that I get now. How things change!
All the best

G'day Sumalee! Glad to have you with us - more aussies to take over this place when the yanks are all asleep!!  :ausflag; :ausflag; :ausflag;

It must be difficult being a mother and carer and dealing with this stuff alone specially when those around you don't really understand. Well you have us now. Hopefully we can help while you wait for that phone call!!!

Hi Sumalee and  :welcomesign;
I love Cairns.  I love the harbour, and the foreshore, and the hills....  But I digress:  welcome to IHD, visit often and post a lot.

I've never been to Cairns myself. All I know about it is that jellyfish are in season about half the year, but I still want to get up there and see some beach babes.... now I will have a local guide?!?!!  :rofl; >:D :oops;

G'day Sumalee
Just letting you know where I live - Cobar NSW, which is western NSW, near Bourke (most people have an idea where Bourke is) :)
We are 100km from Cobar on a grazing property so I am keen for PD to keep working for me, as HD at home here would be harder I think.
I've only been on PD for 12 weeks, so still very much a beginner. My nephrologist is pushing for me to find a live donor - my hubby tested but no joy there. Lots of people have 'offered' but it is such a serious thing that I have not yet seriously considered it: just can't get my head around pinching a healthy person's kidney!
Hope the contact with everyone is helping you.    :flower;

Giday from another Aussie. I think Cairns and surrounding areas is incredibly beautiful. Just loved seeing the Barron falls. And the assortment of flowers are so pretty. Pity the fruit such as mangoes and paw paws are so high in potassium.
