It seems renal px cannot take either Zantac and Mylaxx (spelling). I asked the nephro about pepto-bismol, he said that was fine. It looks like Tums and Rolaids are not a good idea either from what I have been reading...
Any suggestions on OTC heartburn remedies?

Many of us take Tums anyway, as phosphorus binders with the food we eat.
But I need something stronger, because I have a very weak lower esophageal sphincter--stuff comes up out of my stomach easily.
So I take OTC Omeprazole. (The brand name version is Prilosec OTC, but most drugstore chains have their own version.)

Some chiropractors carry a product called Zypan 8500. It works really well for me. Also was approved by my neph, however it is about $38.00 a bottle of 330 tablets.I have taken every type of RX and OTC for heartburn and this is the only one that works well enough that after awhile, you only have to take it if you are having a heartburn type of food.

Over here :ukflag; we take either Lansaprazole or omeprazole , because of the amount of other tablets we take , you need something to protect your stomach lining to stop both ulcers and reflux !

Well, the patent on Prevacid (lansoprazole) expired just last November, so it's now available OTC over here :usaflag; too.
I buy Prilosec OTC just because it's a bit cheaper where I live.
