Hey guys,
Well just to let you know whats happening with moi on the transplant stuff, my mum and brother had their blood taken on thursday and we got the results back today(so quick! ^^) and it looks like they are both a match! W000T finally a bit of good news for once for me. Im A+ and well they are both O+ so yay so happy lol. Now i think the next step is DNA tests or something so fingers crossed that they are a match for that too! Ill let ya know what happens and such.

Hey Adam,
:yahoo; Great to read this update. They are most likely checking for what sort of antigen match you have (they look at the most important six antigens out of the hundreds that you have). You mum should be a 3/6 match since you receive half of your DNA from her, but in rare instances the match could be better. Your brother could be a perfect match (you have a 25% chance of that).

Hey guys very sorry that i havent been online. I've not been able to get on the site for agggess! No idea why it wouldnt work but seems ok since the recent update so w00t!! I do have some news on the transplant side though ^^ my mum matches 4/6 :D and my brother matches all 6! YAY! But we have decided that my mum is going forward for the next set of tests. Hopefully the kidney will last a while and when it fails my bro will give me his. If it was my bro going first and it failed well my mum would be alot older and it wouldnt be good for her so lets wait for the next tests to begin and ill let ya know what happens!

Does anyone know how long the next set of tests take and what they involve? My mum who is going forward said she will start the tests after her holiday so probably the begining of October but im not sure how many tests there are. I hope it doesnt take forever >.< only been doing dialysis since end of january and omg i cant stand it anymore. No idea how people cope when they have been doing it for years!

Once my sister had the blood matching test done, they started in on the physical testing to make sure she was healthy. All told, it took a total of 8 months with the testing beginning in January and finishing in August. A lot of it has to do with the potential donor finding the time to schedule the tests. Plus, one test gets done, then the doctor checks to make sure the donor passes, then the next test is conducted. At my center,the donor has to pass each test prior to being ok'd for the next.Makes sense because they don't want to waste anyone's time and $. I have read it could take as little as 6 months if things go smoothly. Good luck to you and your Mum.

It really varies from center to center. At Mayo in Phoenix they did all my donors testing in 5 days and the transplant happened 7 weeks later. It would have been a month sooner if not for a sister of my donor who tried to stop the process. I hope yours happens fast. I was on dialysis for 2 1/2 months and it seemed like a long time. I too salute those who have done it for many years.

Ahhh i see. Well i suppose i can wait a little while longer. Cant have anything done till february anyway because of the auto-immune disease i had. Need to make sure its gone!

My donors did blood first to check blood type and match. Once that was determined they were admitted to the hospital for an overnight stay. The hospital no longer does this and donors do all their testing outside the hospital. Anyway, they do more blood work (they were stuck every 30 minutes or so for a few hours (that was the worse part), they did blood pressure checks regularly (or constantly it seemed), they did multiple urine tests, they progressed to the chest x-ray the next morning if all went well the first day, then they did whatever the test is they inject the dye into the veins and they get real hot. Can't remember what that's called.
