Title: Hello Everyone
Post by: dialysismomma on July 13, 2010, 06:00:24 AM
Hello I am dialysismomma, I have 2 rolls in the dialysis world first I take care of my fiance who has been on nx stage for a year now on dialysis for 6 years second I am a Certified dialysis tech and have been since 2001. Before I met my fiance I never understood what dialysis patients go through once you get home. Then I met the love of my life and I understood the WHOLE picture. As a tech I knew my patients felt like crap while they were in the center but always thought well they feel better when they get home. Well now I know that, that is far from the truth. In fact he felt much worse when he got home cramped in his legs all the time and his body just would not shut down he would not sleep for days and then when he finally got some rest it would be for a couple of hours and then he was back up. So after we moved in together I talked to the nurse that does the home dialysis at the clinic I worked at to see if that was an option for him and she contacted the corprate office to see if it was allowed and guess what they said YES. So I took a week off of work to train( we didnt have to do much training since i was already a tech) We chose to do the pure flow system with nx stage and although he would not admit it at first he was starting to feel better. I could tell cause he was actually sleeping in bed with me again at night and not just laying with me until I fell asleep and then getting up. So now almost a year later we have had very few proplems with nx stage and what we do have problems with we call his nurse from the clinic (who is on call 24/7. Which is nice.) and she either talks me through it or if need be she comes out the next day to fix the situation. If i need supplies and I cant get there to get them she over nights them to me . I have to say his Nurse is the best nurse ever. So that is us in a nutshell. I hope to meet all of you guys and I hope that I may help some of you as I am sure that you will help me

Welcome dialysismomma!  And thanks for providing your fiancé's experiences with NX Stage.  I've only been on HD for a few months, and I'd like to try home hemo.  Your comments have convinced me that NX is the way to go.

Hi Dialysismomma and welcome to our group.  My husband also does NxStage and he has felt better since day 1.  He still has a tough day now and then but compared to when he was on hemo in-center, the difference is amazing.

I'm looking forward to seeing you on the boards.   :welcomesign;

Howdy, dialysismomma and fiance, and welcome to the group.  I wish all techs could understand their patients better like you do.  Come on back and post often.

Thanks so much I wish all techs could understand the way I do as well. Maybe then there would be a little more compassion for the patient that they are taking care of every day. I know it made me a better tech it is just to bad that my job didnt think so and fired me after 3.5 years there and put it as it was a reduction of work force but then hired a nurse the same day and another tech after that. So now I am unemployed but it is ok because that gives me more time to take care of my fiance and it is their loss. I miss all my patients that I took care of though but life goes on and we have to take the hand that god has delt so I go on and we survive.

Ok So when I introduced myself I talked about how wonderful my fiance nurse was. Well I spoke to her this morning and then this afternoon we get a phone call from the social worker informing us that she no longer works for the clinic. Now this has up so upset and we are stuck dealing with the director of nursing who knows jack shit about nx stage and we have decided to switch to another center. I am so pissed off about it right now. Liberty Mid America Dialysis sucks ass they get rid of the good people and keep all the crappy ones. I just dont know what to say about it right now. I hope to hear from the new center tomorrow

Hi Dialysismomma and welcome to IHD.  Ideal situation.  I wish I had a tech that lived with me.  Although I would not like them telling what I cannot eat.   :angel;   Best of luck to you and thank you for joining our site.

honestly I allow him to eat what he wants most of the time.. I just get on him when he eats to many cashews.... not because he is not suppose to eat them but because they give him gas... lol
