Hi My name is Katy. I am an ex nurse and have just joined Russell England at Global Dialysis. I worked on the renal transplant unit at St Bartholomew's Hospital in London, UK and have many years experience working with people with medical conditions whilst getting on with their lives . I want to help Russ develop Global Dialysis further to be a really useful site for dialysis users and am keen to hear any views that people have.
I am a marathon runner (although injured with an Achilles problem at the moment). I am married with an eight year old son and two Jack Russell's called Harry and Potter. I love my garden :flower; and going for long walks in beautiful countryside.
Look forward to meeting people here.
Many thanks :thx;
Katy

Hey Katy, I'm so glad you found us. We are a global dialysis community too but here there are no censors. We get to say what is on our minds and get feelings off our chest. I hope we can work together for a better dialysis community.

Hi Katy and I also welcome you to IHD. It's always good to see medical professionals take an interest in the patient/caregiver's point of view. :welcomesign;

I guess I could do some research on Global Dialysis, but it's late and I am tired, so maybe you can just tell me what this is. I am assuming you would be helping people get dialysis if they are travelling internationally? If that's the case, then you're the person I want to talk to. I live in the US but my 19 year old autistic son lives in England, and my greatest fear about starting dialysis is that it will mean that I won't be able to go to England and afford dialysis there in case there is an emergency and my son needs me. I can't begin to tell you how much this scares and depresses me. Anyone have thoughts on this?

Welcome to our community, Katy! Glad that you found us and joined us. I joined Global Dialysis years ago, but was never active. I had a look at it again since you posted and saw a lovely picture of you! I was even able to check out the dialysis centres back in my home country, Barbados! I look forward to your input here on IHD.
Keep reading and please keep posting.
