I always have the TV volume on full.
That's cos I'm now a bit deaf and have to wear a hearing aid to take part in conversation. :yahoo;
-
I imagine I should be going def pretty soon too, but it will not be the worst thing that has happened to me.

I am saddened by your willingness to go deaf. I cannot imagine never being able to hear Beethoven's Ode to Joy ever again. Please rethink your decibel level.

I too would never jeopardize my hearing for anything. Whenever I go to concerts or clubs to hear live bands (used to go much more frequently than I do now but still go...saw Angelique Kidjo last Wednesday) I wear foam earplugs to cut the sound down to acceptable levels. Same with listening to music at home.
I consider all my senses and all my organs real gifts to be treasured and it's my job to maintain them as best I can. Now that's just my view and anyone can choose to damage their hearing or eyesight or taste buds or livers or hearts or kidneys or lungs or whatever...seems a real shame though, especially when aging inflicts its own toll and that CAN'T be prevented. I'm just sayin'...interesting how different we all are.

Nope, don't even like using headphones if I can help it. My senior year in high school, I did an advanced Biology project about hearing. When the school district was testing everyone's hearing levels, they agreed to let me double test some of my friends after they used their headphones for 20 minutes. At a decibel levels that my friends normally listened to, 20 minutes of headphone use dropped their hearing capacity by 50 to 75 decibels. 20 minutes. None of us ever blasted our headphones again!

I didn't go deaf through loud noises or music. My mother and brother were/are a bit deaf.
It's not just the deafness; you will also get tinnitus, if you haven't already got it.
Don't expect a hearing aid to correct everything like spectacles fix eyesight. Hearing aids don't work with anything like the efficiency of spectacles.

yes it is interesting how different we are...maybe I need to be a little more specific not every thing I listen too gets the volume pumped up and I am not trying to make my self deaf that is ridiculous, sorry if offened anyone here.

Gregory suddenly approached and said: What noise annoys an oyster?
"What?" I said, surprised.
"A noisy noise annoys an oyster!"
He said, and went back into the kitchen.
