Title: Asking for a kidney...?

Asking for a kidney -
Information for Transplant Recipients
This section of Living Donors Online! is for those of you who are actual or potential transplant recipients (not donors).
http://www.livingdonorsonline.org/recipients.htm

That link has some great information.
I would, however, add something to the statement: "Finally, you might make an
appeal through local mass media, such as newspapers, radio, and
television. Doing so gets the word out to a large number of people."
I would add:
Before doing so, check with your local transplant center about their policy
regarding evaluating donors obtained in this manner. Every center
has their own policy and some prohibit such appeals.

My opinion on this subject is pretty simple. It's *my* body, and if I want to ask the president to donate I should be able too. I should be able to ask whoever I want, however I want, if I want too. If I wanted to make a website and then advertise the website, I could... I of course would always be sure to state that there is no rewards offered in donating your kidney except the satisfaction of knowing you helped a fellow human being live a more normal life and be a better mother to her children. I see nothing wrong in asking a stranger to donate... to me, it's the same as asking a relative or friend... I have had a lot of friends offer to be tested and I have 3 brother's and 1 offered and was tested and the other 2 won't be tested for whatever reason I am not really sure... they just don't want to do it. That's fine with me, but that shouldn't mine my option for live donation has ended because they said no, I should be able to ask anyone else if I want too... and it shouldn't matter how I ask, ie.. tv, website, newspaper ad, signs posted around town, posters on hospital walls... whatever. Thats my  :twocents;

Really? I always thought it was for donors so even though I have known about that site for over a year I never went there :P

Another link .. not sure how anyone feels about it, is matchingdonors.com (http://matchingdonors.com)

I know matchingdonors.com is still pretty controversial in transplant circles - but a guy
I know named Paul found a recipient through them and it's a really great story - CBS
news covered it - here's the video if you're interested

Oh you know him personally? I think he is a guy I had emailed before .. haven't heard from him in awhile though. Or else it was the donor who I was in contact with. I would have to check my email list again :P
