Title: Boom!
Post by: galvo on May 24, 2010, 04:57:07 PM
It's been a fun week or so. Last Sunday week, I copped some horrible tightening across the chest. After the traditional 2 day wait, and collapsing from lack of breath, I rang my old pals the Paramedics and they arrived just as I was getting relaxed on the floor. They whisked me into Emergency, whence I progressed to Intensive Care and then Coronary Care. It was a fully fledged heart attack and I ended up having an angiogram, during which they inserted 3 stents into the heart vessels. The cardiac consultant said that my heart vessels are horribly calcified because of the kidney disease.

I also developed some nasty oesophagus pain which has totally prevented me from sleeping. I have been lucky in getting an appoinment with a gut specialist this Thursday. When I had an endoscopy in 07, early signs of Barrett's Oesopogus were detected. I think this has developed, which is not a good thing. Anyone else got this?

So I got home yesterday, sick, tired and unhappy. Apart from this, all is fine.

Yikes, Galvo, so sorry to hear of this. One of the wonderful side effects of kidney disease, I suppose. At least you have the stents in and in time you will be okay on that part. I have heard of Barrets, but dont know any one who has had it, so no info on that. Just wanted to say get well, and know we are thinking of you. Love to have you come into chat some Sat morning around 10 A.M. your time, we even had Stoday in last week. Stay well, and dang it, dont wait 2 days to get help for heavens sakes.

Not at all a good post to read Galvo although I'm really glad they got you to the hospital in time.  Keep us in the loop about how things go and about the Barretts's.   :cuddle;

Oh my goodness...that's awful!  So, what can be done for "horribly calcified" cardiac vessels?  I know that calcium deposits are a result of kidney disease, but did your neph ever check your calcium levels and treat any abnormality?  I just don't understand how this can happen!  I mean, I know about the corrolation between calcification and CKD, etc, but how can this be ALLOWED to happen?  Are there even any treatments available?

How are you now, and what is going to be done to make sure the chances of this happening again are lessened?

So glad you're well enough to post!  Keep us informed.

Aw, Galvo, I was actually going to ask if anyone had heard from you last Friday, before AT&T inadvertently cut off my Internet access for three days. I was worried something had happened as I'm so used to seeing your avatar everyday.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Wow, Boom indeed!

Welcome back, and I hope each day sees you feeling that much better. :flower;

Perhaps the "two day wait" is a tradition that needs to be forgotten... :rofl;

Thinking of you, Galvo....

Hope you continue to recover well....

God forbid that you become unwell again, but please don't do the typical macho male thing, and leave it so long to get help... You'll be giving US the heart attack!....

Love...

Darth...
