Hello. My name is Larry. I am a 42 year old male living in Kentucky. I have been on hemo dialysis almost 7 years now. I have had two transplants and am waiting on a 3rd. I have 2 grown sons and one granddaughter. I am hoping to find ideas trying to control fluidm intake. Any ideas will be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Larry and welcome to IHD. Fluid is a hard one for me too. The real key is the salt. Try and not eat prepared foods or fast foods because that will make you thirsty. There is more information on the regular site so have at it. Loads of info and loads of fun. Come here to vent and your post will not be erased.

Hi Larry and I also welcome you to our group. My husband is currently on NxStage and this allows him a little more leeway on the fluid and other dietary restrictions. When he was on hemo in-center, he sucked on ice chips and sugar free hard candy to help control his thirst. And as others have said, controlling the sodium is half the battle.
Again, welcome, and I'm looking forward to seeing you on the boards! :welcomesign;

As you have seen, there are many helpful people on this website. I too have had my battles with fluid intake. Somehow, I have not been doing too badly recenly. But I must tell you that this is one of the important areas to which we must pay attention. How much do you usually gain between sessions?
Looking forward to hearing some more from you.

Welcome to the site. I am from Ohio. I can't help you with the fluid intake thing because I have recently started having issues with it myself. I already feel like I deprive myself of liquids and I just keep putting more on between sessions. In fact, I had to have an MRI yesterday with contrast so I had to do 3 hrs of D immediately after. My regular session was today and I put on 3 kilos since yesterday. I don't know what I'm doing different. Anyway, keep asking questions, someone will have the answers. :flower;
