Title: New to forum in Texas
Post by: alvinrs on May 12, 2010, 11:08:02 PM
I have had ESRD for 7 months now. (Kidney disease for 5 years) I went to class for home Hemo and did home Hemo for 2 weeks. I felt great. However my care giver is my wife. She gets up at 4:30 am and works till 3:45. by the time she gets home I get hooked up an do treatment then I get unhooked it is after 8:00 and time for her to go to bed. It is hard on her but she was onboard. I however can not get use to 6 days a week. I am going back to clinic 3 days a week. At least then I have 4 days a week I can feel normal and try to forget my ESRD.
It SUCKS.

We all could use a little more "normal" in our lives.  :beer1; Good luck!

Welcome to our community!  This is a great place to be for anyone facing the renal challenge.  Please let your dear wife know that she is welcome to join as well.  We have a wonderful group of caregivers here and there is even a section where they can share with other caregivers.
This is the place for information, support and fun as well.
I totally understand your wish to limit dialysis to three predictable days, and to 'free up' the other days.  What is the possibility of a transplant?
Feel free to ask questions, answer some.  Take advantage of all this site has to offer.   You will soon find that this is a genuine family :grouphug; caring and sharing.   Keep reading, keep posting.

Welcome to the group.  Have you thought about PD?  Although you do it every night (once you get past the manual stage), you can have your days free and feel exceptionally normal.  Just a thought.

I talked to my doctor about PD. However I am diabetic and she thinks the extra sugar in the solution would'nt work well for me.

I have been considering home hemo and the 6 day thing is what's holding me back too.  Although I like the idea of not leaving the house for treatments. Anyway, welcome to the site.  Look forward to hearing more from you.

Alvinrs, welcome to IHD.  This is the site you'll love to come to especially when you are hating dialysis.  Come her to vent and we understand.  Come her to ask questions and someone will be here for you.

Hi Alvinrs and I also welcome you to IHD.  I am a caregiver to my ESRD hubby and we are currently doing home hemo.  He says he feels so much better on the 6 day a week schedule that the extra time we put into it is worth it.   I tell him that now that I'm getting a little work out of him, I can slack a little.   :rofl;

Please encourage your wife to visit our forum also.  There are a lot of caregivers out here that can totally relate to "her world" and that, at least for me, makes it so much easier to bear.

I'm looking forward to seeing you on the boards!   :welcomesign;
