Title: Topaz transplant update.
Post by: topazbeauty on May 03, 2010, 04:24:02 AM
Hi All!

Thanks for the warm wishes and prayers for my self and my mom during our transplant. Overall everything went without a hitch. The transplant was preformed early on Wednesday morning and we've been doing recovery every since. They had me out of the bed and walking that night! And the crazy thing was the amount of urine! Obviously I was on an IV and I had a Foley catheter, but the first day I produced 5 liters of urine! I don't think I've every come near to that in my life!. I've been so used to 600 mls a day so to see my catheter have to be emptied multiple times was pretty cool.

My mom actually went home on Saturday. She's still having a lot of pain but is glad to be in a soft bed and eating home cooked food (she's staying with my grandparents until her post op in a few weeks). I was suppose to go home yesterday  :( but my creatinine started stalling and actually went up a little so they are keeping me a little longer. They think that it's my Tac level, cause I jumped from 6 to 14 overnight, so we lowered it and hopefully the labs look better today (just got them pulled a few minutes ago so we will see). The only big thing I'm waiting on now is to get my hemo catheter removed! Right now it;s nothing more than a whole in my chest, as they can't even draw blood out of it anymore. So hopefully out soon. The pain hasn't been too bad until last night, I think my body finally realized that I'm not in my bed and that this bed is really uncomfortable. So today we are struggling with lowering my blood pressure and getting my pain back under control. Again, hopefully just too high of drug side effects. As far as the drugs, I'm doing well on all of them. I have been having some minor tremors, but they think that they may go away with time.

Weirdest thing is the nerve "damage" that I have. My mom had a huge (way bigger than anyone thought) kidney and so it lays across a few nerves in my groin. It's weird getting use to not having feeling in the pocket of my leg or the top of my thigh. Other than that what everyone keeps telling me is how much color I have! It's crazy how much you don't realize it yourself. I had been hiding my pale complexion for months with tanning and bronzers but to have everyone walking and tell me how much color I have is a real treat!

Have to head back to sleeping now to try to get over this pain. I'll try to update more later.

I shook like a leaf at the beginning, too.  It took a while, but it's completely gone, now, so hang in there and yours should get better too.  I had a nerve damage numb spot on top of my left thigh after, and that faded away, too.  Hope you have the same luck!

Everyone says that about color to me too.  I guess we don't realize how toxin-yellow we are until it's gone!

 :bandance;

Get those numbers back down and feel fab soon!

So happy to hear the good news that all went well for you and for your Mom. Hope you are home in your own bed soon.

Great update and I hope that things keep on improving and you get home soon and back into your own bed.  The numbing of the nerves is pretty common and does eventually regain sensation but it can take quite a while.
I hope the transplant gives you many many years of a new life.   :grouphug;
