Hi there everyone! I'm new to the site I thought I'd introduce myself.. My name is Katie and I grew up in central California. By the time I was 13 I got dialgnosed with kidney disease. I started dialysis at 18 and had a transplant shortly after. 6 months later the kidney rejected do to non compliance and now I am 22 and have been on dialysis every sincE. I do hemodialysis during a noctournal shift so I'm in the machine 8 hours 3 nights. The biggest mistake of my life has been the loss of my transplanted kidney and now, four years and alot of growing up later, I believe I am ready for another transplant. now my fate is in the lists hands. Being a young, active person on dialysis is often hard and I look forward to meeting many people that can actually say that they understand what I am going through. -kt :waving;

:welcomesign; to IHD Katie and I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your transplant. Kidney disease certainly isn't easy and being young doesn't help either. I started the first time at 26 so was a bit luckier than you were at 18. Mistakes are tough to handle too but they do tend to grow us up in a hurry and I hope that you can forgive yourself and get a new kidney so you can get on with life.

Hi Katie and welcome to IHD. :welcomesign;
Central CA is so beautiful or at least it was before they cut the water.
There are some people on this site in your exact position. Hard lesson to learn, but with you help maybe your testimony could save another teen from doing the exact same thing.
Thank you for joining and I look forward to your posts.

G'day Katie and welcome. I have a soft spot for all girls named Katie, so I wish you a very warm welcome :)
Reading between the lines it sounds like you lost your transplant due to your own actions? Can I ask what happened there? Did you not stick with the meds because you felt so good and normal - that kind of thing? I'm interested.
You've had 4 long years now to wait again - I certainly hope you get another bite of that cherry soon.
I am envious of your nocturnal shifts. I would love to be able to do that - I think it would really help - alas my unit does not offer it (boo hoo!).
Anyway welcome and we look forward to hearing more for you!
