Title: I know my day will come
Post by: karen547 on April 26, 2010, 07:36:25 AM
I know that one day I will get the call. I just have been waiting for 3 long years, and sometimes I wonder if they have forgotten about me lol. I just am so ready for a normal life again, and want to be done with the whole dialysis shenanigans! Thanks for listening to this little rant

I wish it was you turn today, Karen.  I want you to get that life saving transplant so you can have the life a young person should have.    :cuddle;

Karen, it will when you least expect it and aren't totally prepared to go to the hospital.

It will come soon Karen, when you least expect it, so as your Mother would say, always wear clean underwear, shave your legs and keep your manicure and pedicure up to date. God Bless you Honey.

Call them and check in.  Tell them (remind them) you are well and waiting.

It will happen when you aren't expecting it! Stay positive and healthy! I received the call when my husband was about 1,200 miles away. He didn't even make it in time for my surgery. I know the waiting is awful and dialysis is so stressful on you physically and emotionally. Call the transplant center and check in every once in awhile. I always felt better knowing I was on their radar.

Karen - totally got you there. For me I've been active on the list 4.25 years, so I feel your frustration and wondering if you're still there. A doctor said to me the other day "Are you on the list?" and I blurted out "Well that's what they tell me!" and I knew it sounded frustrated, because it was.

I just have to remember that these averages of 4-5 years are made up of lots of waiting times. We know folks from IHD who have waited 4 or so years, some 7, some 11, and some 6 months.

We just have to hang in there and try to not stress about it so much.

It was funny actually because just the other day I had this totally random thought - basically if/when I get that bloody transplant, in theory I won't need to have my phone on 24/7 on the loudest ring volume setting to wake me up!  :rofl;

I think it's kind of like love... it often comes along when you least expect it. The problem is as time goes on I feel like I SHOULD expect it soon.. and there is the dilemma.

A friend told me recently she had a psychic vision that I got the call on May 8th. Hope it's this year!!

Maybe for some peace of mind? you could contact your transplant co-ordinator and ask them to find out if you've been matched to any organs yet? I did that and they responded that yes, I had matched to a number of organs already but people who had been waiting longer got them(fair enough too). I guess that gives me some comfort to know that I HAVE matched and presume I will again in future.. and hopefully one of those times I'll be the #1 on the waiting list....

Fingers crossed for you too obviously.

Hey Karen,  just wanted to say I'm sure it will happen for you very soon. 3 years is a long time and I'm so sure your turn must be very very soon now.

I know (and I really do appreciate) how lucky I was to get the call after only 6 months on dialysis and it really will change your life. I'm 8 weeks post transplant now. Dialysis is crap and I will have everything crossed that the phone rings for you any day now.

Also Richard I know what you mean about people saying it will happen when you least expect it. To be honest I expected it (or maybe hoped for it!) every single day. So every time time phone would i'd think "ooh maybe this is it". It's weird because when I actually got the call a few weeks ago it was 9.20 in the evening and I was watching a film with my boyfriend and a friend. For some reason I just thought it would be my mum and actually said to my boyfriend "leave the phone, I'll call my mum back after the film". Can you imagine!!!! Luckily Shawn answered the phone and I started jumping up and down and screaming!

Anyway I have my fingers crossed that I will see a post from you soon saying you got the call  :cuddle; x x x
