Hi guys,
I am a bit concerned about a lump that seems to be growing under my left nipple. I had it checked by a nurse yesterday and she agreed there was a lump and got a doctor to check as well. He also agreed and is arranging a scan for me to find out what it could be. I know breast cancer in males is rare but it DOES occur. I'm trying not to think or fear the worst but it is causing me some anxiety. I didn`t want to mention it before cos I thought I was just putting on weight but my dry weight has dropped recently from 78kg to 77.5kg so it's not extra weight.
I know it is wrong to assume things but has anyone ever experienced anything similar? My nurse suggested it could just be a fatty deposit. What is a "fatty deposit" and could it be something totally unrelated?

I'm sorry I can't help you with your question but I do wish the best for you and I hope it's nothing to be concerned about. :)
-
No answers here - will be thinking positive thoughts for you, though. :grouphug;
-
Yes, it could certainly be something benign (and most lumps are). However, your doctor is being vigilant by sending you for an evaluation.
I know it's difficult, but try not to worry.
Thinking about you and wishing you the best of luck,
DeLana :grouphug;

I cant help with the question either, but I hope its nothing.

Anything suspicious should be looked into. Hind sight is 20/20 but foresight isn't so instead we have to be smart and check out everything to make sure just in case. It may be nothing but better safe than sorry right?
-
I had that a few times also Mattyboy and it has always dissapeared I never did ask the Doc on it but haven't had it v==back in ages now . Still a good idea to get it checked out .
-
Just after I started on dialysis again, I had hardening just under my nipple. When i saw the doc he said it was normal and because of the change in hormones with the kidney not working. It went away after a while and has not been back.
Having it checked it out is the best thing to do.

Really????
Wow because I have had odd lumps develop on my side but after awhile they disappear .. then years later a new one .. and then it disappears .. but they are not normal bumps that disappear within a week .. these stay for MONTHS!
But now you have got me wondering if it was just hormones and having no kidney!

Will a mod please move this to off-topic, as this has nothing to do with End Stage Renal Disease. This is Dialysis: General Discussion.

In my opinion it has to do with dialysis ? what do you want to do ? put it in the joke section ??

Lumps have NOTHING to do with dialysis. ::) There are a couple of sections to put it in:
http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?board=11.0 - Other Severe Medical Conditions
or
http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?board=5.0 - Off-Topic
Have you seen those two sections? ::) See, I can be a smart ass too.
-
Lol yup you can Epoman and I'm glad to see that also ,but AlasdairUK said he talked to his doctor and was told that its normal with people that dont have kidneys , something to do with hormones .... so I still say it has something to do with renal problems. But then again what the hell do I know ?? Waiting for your next shot on this one lol.

Well that may be true, but AlasdairUK didn't start this thread, and in general lumps are not generally caused by end stage renal disease or dialysis, lumps can be caused from many factors, some are not even health related and cause no ill effects. I do my best to try to maintain some organization on this site, and I feel that this thread will be better placed in one of the two other sections I had mentioned.
To give you an example my "Mallory-Weiss Tears" are caused by renal disease, however I placed the thread I created talking about it in the proper section, since it is a medical condition that can be caused by many others factors not just ESRD. Here is a link: http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=1710.0 The same thing with "Lumps" they can be caused by a great many factors.
I hope that explains it better. And in the end I am not saying you are wrong, I am just stating my preference, of where I want this thread placed.

Woohoo let the smart assidness commence .. wait .. is assidness a word?? :2thumbsup; :popcorn; :popcorn;
-
Assidness is not a word. acidness is, but I think this is the wrong thread to discuss words!
-
So matty did you get it checked??
-
Am I allowed to answer this here???
Yes, the doc has arranged for me to have a scan. Still waiting for the appointment though. These things take time here but it's encouraging that they're not rushing me off to be scanned immediately so they can't be too worried. My consultant asked me if my nipple was producing MILK!!! It's not.

It was sarcasm :P
My consultant asked me if my nipple was producing MILK!!! It's not.
MILK?? Now THAT has to be the weirdest thing for a guy to be asked :P

Hope things are cool. Who knows why they would ask that, but it must not be as uncommon as we might think, or they wouldn't ask.
-
It must be hormonal or something. Anyway, I was a bit FLABBERGASTED (great word I just had to use) to say the least and didn't ask the consultant why he asked the question! I will ask at my unit on Monday night why they asked all these questions.
-
Well, this is certainly off topic, but I just gotta say it.
I just read all the back-and-forth recent posts, and jeez, you guys make me smile - you're just like a big family for real!
-
This is a little OT, but sort of on-track with discussion of men's nipples... :lol;
Did you all know there have been some cases of men breastfeeding children!? :o
-
The "Breast Doctor" came to see me this evening while I was dialyzing. She had a good feel of my BREAST and said she thought it was hormonal. She asked what drugs I was on and as soon as I mentioned Omeprazole which I use daily to stop my stomach reacting to everything else I'm taking she immediately said that one of the side effects of this drug is an increase in breast tissue.
I am to have a scan on Thurs and will take things from there. The doc informed me my breast may or may not get bigger and if necessary, for cosmetic purposes it can be removed with surgery.
I just want to point out that I DID SOMETHING about finding a lump under my nipple even though breast cancer is rare in men, it still had me worried. You ladies out there who have found lumps you are not sure about GET THEM CHECKED!
-
Thanks for the update Matty,
Glad to know it is hormonal, hope the scan goes well.
Cheers,
Alasdair.
