Hey everyone at IHD, this is Maria, Katherine's youngest daughter. My mom asked me to get on here and let you guys know that she is in the hospital right now.
Here is the story as i know it: she was rushed to the ER with a really high fever. They figured out today (Thursday) that the fever was caused by an infection in her dialysis graft. The doctor first wanted to take it out but later decided to try to kill off the bacteria with antibiotics and heat on her graft. Hopefully it will kill off the infection and the graft can be saved. We should know by Friday or Saturday if the infection is getting under control. I will try to update you guys as i hear more about her condition. We do not know how long she will be in the hospital, if all goes well hopefully a couple of days but it could be longer.
Please keep my mom in your thoughts and prayers, she is one tough lady but as everyone on here knows... being on dialysis makes things so much harder on your body. If you want to call and talk to her and wish her well her hospital number is (909) 427-6576. I know she would love to hear from you, it would make her day.
If you would like to get a hold of me please send me an email at sotom@msoe.edu, i am at a conference so i will be checking my email sporadically.
Thank you for all of your support!!!!

Oh no...I'm so sorry to hear this. I can't believe that despite her illness, she was thoughtful enough to get word to us about her condition. I'm sure many of us would love to speak to her...are you sure this would be OK? Please check with her first because I'm sure she needs her rest and doesn't need all of us phoning her and disturbing her. If she would like for us to call, is there a good time to do so? In the meantime, please tell her that we are all praying for her and hope that she will relax and let the hospital staff take good care of her. Please keep us posted, OK? And don't forget to ask her when she is feeling well enough to take a flood of well-wishing phone calls!
-
shoot!! Bad news for KK... hoping you can keep her piled with B5 DVD's or other things to keep her amused and she can get over this infection very soon and out of there. She'll be in my thoughts this weekend!

I just spoke to Ktkatz and she's obviously not feeling well. They have discovered that the source of the infection is MRSA in her graft, the same graft she's had for ten years and to which, in her words, she's "very attached". They plan to pull the plug on that graft sometime this evening. She doesn't know at this point what the next step will be in terms of her access and for now she just needs to get through the removal of the graft. Very disheartening for her and all of our positive thoughts, prayers etc for her and her medical team are what we can do right now.
-
Oh gosh...that's frightening news. MRSA in her graft? Does she do D in clinic and perhaps picked it up there? This is really very worrying. Thank you for letting us know this latest update, Monrein. Please keep us posted. I had wanted to call her, but I don't really know her and didn't want to disturb her, so I'm glad that the more "senior" members have spoken to her. Oh dear...this is not good.
-
I am so glad you had a chance to talk with her, Monrein. I hate this has happened. She is such a fighter and a wonderful role model to all of us. 10 years with this graft - I wish it had been 20. Love you Kitkatz and keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. :cuddle;
-
hang in there girlfriend :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;
-
My thoughts and prayers are with you. 10 years out of a graft is a lot. Wish I could of gotten that from my first one.
Keep us posted!
Troy

Just found out about this in another thread.
Sorry to hear about this kitkatz and hope they can get the MRSA under control fast. I hope you get to feeling better soon, but know this can take sometime. Sorry to hear that they also have to do something with your fistula.
Get well soon.
-
Just got off the phone with KitKatz, about an hour I guess from Monreins call to her. Surgery is now scheduled for tomorrow at 9:30 A.M. In her own words, "they are going to rip my access out of my arm". Even as sick as she is, still cracking the jokes. They did not feed her all day today, until the Dr. came in and said the surgery will be tomorrow. She said to tell every one her spirits are up, and would love some calls, but not on Saturday as she is bound to be groggy most of the day.
-
Oh poor KK!..... I hope they get on top of that infection very quickly....
Does anyone have mobile number for her???.... Could they PM it to me, please???.... I'd like to send a text.....
Get well KK.... That infection doesn't know what a woman it's picked on... I don't fancy it's chances!!!!!.....
Love...
Darth....
-
Good luck Kitkatz, hoping your better soon.
-
oh kitkatz, i wish i could be there to sit with you. i think of you ofter and am rather upset that this has happened to you.
-
Just found this thread. Hang in their Kitkatz - get better soon. You will have to get your big stick out to fight that infection.
:grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;
-
Hope they get that infection under control soon. Too bad you have to lose the graft KK. Tell them to use the :Kit n Stik; on the MRSA
-
Auugh! Darn it, kit, get better!
-
Hope you get better soon Catherine. Things have been too quiet too long hasn't it... ::) Wish I could visit you.
-
I wish I could visit you, too! Thinking about you Katherine. Miss your threads woman! Get well soon!!!! :cuddle;
-
I need you back (with your stick)! Be well.
Rerun :flower;
-
I'll try calling Monday. I don't want to bother her today so she can rest before she feels the need to :Kit n Stik; for possibly waking her due to the 2 hour time difference ;D :sarcasm; :rofl; :rofl;
-
I spoke to Kit briefly today. They did pull the graft and she says the pain is moderate but not as bad as expected. Other than that she is doing ok.
-
Thanks for the update, Sluff!....
Get well soon, KK..... :grouphug;

Here is an update from my dad about Kitkatz!
Katherine developed fever and a sore left arm, so last Tuesday night we went to Kaiser ER, 22 hours later after doing dialysis, they placed her at the Valley Annex. They determined she was infected by the super bug MRSA. Doctors decided to operate and remove the plastic tube in her arm which has been her dialysis access for the past 8 years.
So she was not allowed to eat Friday, did dialysis and in the evening went for surgery......... needless to say from 2130 to 0250 we waited while emergency cases bumped her off, so back she went to the Annex and me tried to get some sleep. They took her into surgery at 9am today, I got there at 10 and I just got home.
Needless to say she is sore, pissed, angry, and stressed out. Yet there is nothing we can do as it is out of our hands. She is resting, her good right arm has been bruised by a dozen needle tries to find elusive veins, has IV needles in both feet and until 2 today had a catherer in her right groin.
She is resting and is recovering from the surgery and sleeping :)! She says hello to everyone and thank you for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers!!!
Here is her new her room number is Two West # 2119 and the phone is 909 - 427 - 6319.
Have a great day and thank you for keeping my mom in your thoughts!!!
Maria
-
Thanks Maria for the update on your mom.I hope she gets her rest and the dr's can figure out what to do for her next.Give her a hug for us.Take Care
-
Thank you for the update Maria - I will keep your mom in my prayers. You know better than anyone what a strong person she is!
-
Stay Strong, Kitkatz, People are holding You, in Their, Thoughts and Prayers.
-
Maria,
Thanks for letting us know. Please let her know we miss her and if she wanted time off, all she had to was tell us. Ha ha ha! Seriously though, I am thinking about her all the time and hope she shakes this bug and can get out of the hospital soon. Sending love to her and Victor too!
:grouphug;
-
Thanks for the update Maria...I sure wish this were not happening to our friend. :grouphug; for you all.
-
Thank you for the update. Let's hope they beat the MRSA quickly and are able to get another good access going. I am so sorry for the misfortune of getting an infection after 8 good years of dialysis with that access. My prayers are with you.
-
Night before last, I had a terrible night's sleep. I awoke every two hours. Each time I woke up, I was aware of two things...one, my fistula was painful and two, this amorphous feeling of dread. It later occurred to me that I was thinking and worrying about kitkatz. I've never met her, but this situation has really been worrying. I can't come close to imagining what she must be feeling, but when I do try to imagine it, it makes me feel wretched. When I close my eyes and imagine what it must feel like to have IV needles in the veins of your feet...well, it makes me shudder. Isn't it odd that something that is happening to someone you've never met but have only communicated with on a computer can leave you feeling so upset and uneasy?
Is the infection being treated successfully? Losing her graft is just half the battle; is she still feeling the effects of the infection? After all is said and done, will they site a new graft, or is it just too early to be thinking along those lines just yet?
This is so upsetting. I am glad the surgery went well and that she is sleeping. Please give us more updates whenever possible. Thank you!
-
thanks for the updates, both Maria and Sluff. We will be praying hard for her.
-
Thanks for the update. My prayers are with your family. :flower;
-
glad to find an update today. kit, you are in my prayes.
-
:bestwishes; Kitkatz!
-
I'm glad the first part is over for her. My question is how is she going to get dialysis?
Be well Kit.
:flower;
-
The catheter in the groin perhaps?
-
Hang in there KK - hopefully the worst is over.
Remember this: Faith Manages!
-
Keep the faith, KK......

-
The catheter in the groin perhaps?
I thought they said she got that out?? :waiting;
I tried calling her but no answer!
-
Hope you are feeling better each day KK! :cuddle;
-
How are you doing, KK? I hope you are on the path to recovery. :pray;
-
Just spoke to Kitkatz. She's not enjoying her hospital stay, as you can imagine, being poked and prodded this way and that. The groin catheter was removed after the surgery for her graft as they wanted to remove all objects that may have been exposed to the MRSA in her blood. She has not had dialysis for a few days and they are not giving her IV fluids. It looks like they will try to insert a new catheter for dialysis tomorrow and hopefully she'll feel better after getting some D. She does not know how she contracted the bug but has notified her dialysis unit that she contracted MRSA, although she doesn't know what action they may take.
:pray; :pray; :pray; SENDING PRAYERS FOR KITKATZ :pray; :pray; :pray;
-
Send prays!!!
-
Talked to her for a little bit today and she needs her :Kit n Stik; to the nurses and CNA's. She needs to get out so she can feel better, or more thoughtful workers in that hosital.
-
Thanks for the update Karol. Hoping she gets better soon and the danged MRSA gets knocked on its butt.
-
Thinking of you KK. :grouphug;
-
She sounded good when I called. Frustrated, and cranky from the lack of sleep, but hanging in there.
-
Still sending positive thoughts to Kit. I bet she is going crazy in the hospital. I hope they get this all worked out soon and she starts feeling like her old self again. Love you :cuddle;
-
Good grief KK, I really hate to hear all of this. MSRA is the pits. I'm
going to have to double up on the prayers. Know you are in my heart and on my mind.
Love, Mimi
-
thanks for the update carol. i'd love to talk to her, but am afraid of calling and waking her up, so i'll settle for updates from those of you who do call. has the hospital address been posted? a card or two might be nice.
feel better soon kitkatz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I just tried to call but no answer. I hate when that happens because I picture her being awakened by the phone and unable to reach it, or in the bathroom for the first time, or the doctor finally stopped by and the phone is interrupting the conversation, UGH, and then I worry, hmmm... where the heck could she be?
The last 3 numbers of her room phone are 319 and just as I finished dialing I noticed that the time on my computer was 3:19... eerie huh? Or just coincidence. Oh well, I will try again later, I hate to bug her though.
-
If you do get through again, see if you can get a full address. I didn't think about it when I called. I was happy to get through to her once, but I think cards are easier to deal with when you are a patient.
-
I just found this thread...... I was wondering why I was not getting the daily gifts from KK....... I was thinking she may be on vacation..... not the case....... Sorry to hear about this..... no one should have to tackle MSRA...... I hope you get well soon and back on D..... we hate it but we love the way it makes us feel...... get well KK..... see you at the Zoo or farm.....
-
This is what happens when I stay away for too long! I have only just learnt of your hospital stay Kitkatz. I am sorry for being so slack!
Sending hugs and prayers that you are up and running soon. Hand the stick to Victor and give the instructions to hit anything in his path!

Quick update
I spoke with my mom last night... she sounded LOADS better. Her body is finally kicking back on and starting to function normally, well as normal as it can. Her left arm is sore, the Vampires (phlebotomists) keep sticking her everywhere to get blood, she is crabby and complaining to everyone but these are all good signs that she is getting better.
She said the infection is going down and that doctor was glad he took out the graft as that seemed to be one of the causes of it.
I will call and talk to her again today and let you know how she is doing!!
Maria

:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
Oh, I am so glad that she is doing better! Please tell her that we are all eagerly awaiting her return to IHD. What happens next?
-
Thank you Maria. I look for an update first before I read other threads. We just want her well and home. Give her our love when you talk to her again. :grouphug;
-
Thanks Maria, for the update!!...
I'm always far more confident when my mum gets crabby in the hosp... I'm glad to hear that she's getting to the feisty stage... Feist is always good!.... Well, that's what Mum's Neph. says when she starts giving him a hard time ;D!....
Keep the flag flying, Kitz.... I'm wearing that fab Rose Bowl T Shirt you sent me... Thinking of you!.... :grouphug;
God bless...
Darth...
-
Thanks for the update. We're all continuing to send Kitkatz positive healing energy. Tell her we all say hi.
:flower; :flower; :flower;
-
Crabby beats resigned every day! My husband always looks for me to start organizing the hospital ward I'm on as the surest sign of returning health. Hope things continue to improve and they sort out the next steps. :cuddle;
-
thank you Maria. Just knowing she is giving them a little aggravation makes me feel a whole lot better. Sending her love and prayers.
-
Good news!
-
I tried to call her and the phone is busy. Good sign!
:yahoo;
-
I talked to Kit and she tells everyone hello! Her infection has subsided. She has another catheter in her groin for dialysis.
She said she could use some phone calls so: Here is her phone# 909 - 427 - 6319.
:flower;
She sounded pretty good!
-
I wasn't able to sign on for a few days, glad Kit is doing better. She is one tough cookie and soon she will be back. Get all the rest you need Kit. Thinking and praying for better days. :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;
-
I am away from home and just checked in so glad your starting to feel better take care kit :cuddle;
-
Kitkatz, I hope you are feeling even better today and that you will get out of the hospital soon! Many :cuddle;
-
I spoke with her briefly and she sounds better, although she's pretty isolated so she really appreciates phone calls. No idea when she'll head home as they want to be assured that the MRSA is gone before letting her go.
-
Oh KK...I just read this thread, called and spoke with your husband who said you had escaped your prison to get some dialysis in another area of the hospital...at least it was a field trip away from the same scenery. You are in my prayers!
-
Glad she is doing better. If I can stay awake during the day, I'll try calling her.
-
Hang in there, miss u :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle;
-
Anyone talk to Kitkatz today? I hope things are going better and she can come home soon. :grouphug;
-
:waving; If you would like to send Kitkatz a card, please PM me for her home address. I am sure Victor will take them to her, and if she does get out then she won't miss getting them.
-
I am home as of 6pm today. I hurt and am in tears but am glad to be here.
-

Awww I am so sorry you're hurting Kitkatz. I just tried calling you at the hospital. Is there anything I can do for you? :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;

-
I am glad your in the comfort of your home now- I'm sorry your in so much pain though..you sure have been missed around here! :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;
-
So very glad you are home Kit. At least now you have your own bed to sleep in and family around to annoy you. What is your next step for dialysis, back to the same clinic?
-
I did dialysis this morning. I survived it. We got to the car and I was in tears. I cried through part of breakfast. Then I went to get a hair wash and cut. After 13 days of not really washing my hair it was ridiculous. It could have walked off my head. Anyway the hair is short short short! I need more Tylenol right now.
-
Having a tunnel catheter put into your chest is like having a nail gun blow nails directly into your chest! I cried through the entire procedure. I am pretty sure the doc thinks I am a wimp, but it hurt like hell!
-
They put me out for both of mine without even giving me a choice. My neck one though hurt like a Son Of A Gun! Your doc must be a mad man! Mad I say!
-
Good gracious Kit why didn't you make them stop and give you some
pain med. It doesn't matter if the Dr. thinks you are a wimp or not. If
it hurts, it hurts. Drs who do that to people should have their a----
kicked. Glad you are home and I pray things rapidly get better.
-
Ahhhhh Kit, I am so sorry to hear this. You know you are crying because you are so weak, not because you are a wimp. If you want me to I will give you my daughters phone number, she is a hairstylist and works in Redlands. I sure hope you feel a lot better and soon. Is the nexck catheter just until they can build a new acces or what? Get some sleep.
-

You weren't sedated? They gave Jenna that stuff that makes you forget.
:cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle;
-
Sorry for all the pain kitkatz, hope things soon get on an even keel.
-
sorry to hear you're in pain. but very glad to hear you're home. be sure victor takes good care of you.

The first time I started screaming on the operating table as he was doing it it hurt so bad. The second time the surgeon slapped me in the face before the operation and told me not to scream. I told him that the anesthesiologist better put me out more.
I am so sorry you had to go through that. I am glad you are home.
-
Warning- Graphic picture!
Here is my shark bite wound the surgeon gave me on my left arm.
-
:( Ouch!
When can they use it?
-
Use it? These are the scars from taking the graft out of the arm. No site yet determined for a new fistula.
-
Bloody big shark!
-
Ah Kit, I can't imagine how much pain you were in. If you were crying, well, the rest of us would have been screaming bloody murder! I don't think Tylenol would make me feel better----how about tequila? That is what Susie would have suggested! :2thumbsup;
-
Oh, geeze Kitkatz. So sorry for everything you've gone through. I've been gone for quite awhile and the first thing I saw when I logged back on was this thread. I also just went through an infection in my graft after it was revised. I'm sorry they couldn't save yours. I couldn't even imagine having a chest catheter placed with no sedative. I would have screamed so loud the cops would be barging in thinking someone's being murdered. I hope you feel better soon.
Adam
-
YOUCH!! Kitkatz
Definitely different than how they go in.
-
Damn!!!!!!!
-
I hope you really gave it to the shark! :Kit n Stik; :Kit n Stik; :Kit n Stik;

>:( Oh crap!
-
Glad you are home!
Here when they put those things in they relax you and num the heck out of it! Does your doctor believe in litocane?
-
I just can't imagine....just can't imagine. :cuddle;
-
Kit this makes me angry that you were not sedated or anything. They treat P.O.W. better than that. You don't deserve that kind of treatment! Is there anything you can do to change this? It is just ridiculous. I could almost cry just knowing what you are going through. Is there anything anyone can do to ease your pain or the way you have to endure the procedures you have to go through? :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;
-
The doctor told me he ould not promise it would not hurt and that it probably would. AFTER I burst into tears he tried to give me drugs to calm me down. A**hol*!
-
Oh, My, what a wonderful and kind man!!!! :sarcasm;
-
Oh Kit, I'm so sorry. I hope you're feeling better.
:cuddle;
<3 you,

Can I whine a little bit here? I have not been at my work since April 13. They know I have been out. I had to tell them via email to get anyone to say anything to me about being sick or out. I had two teachers who I work with daily who had no idea I was out of school for 2 weeks. What the he** is going on? Even staff club has done nothing, no card. nothing. I have been at this school for almost twelve years.
I am feeling sorry for my self, I know, but sometimes the pit of despair comes visiting. especially when I am hurting.
While I was in the hospital:
Lucky that my Mom called daily to check up on me.
My sister came by the hospital and brought me magazines to read.
My friend Jennifer brought me a book, tea, and some puzzle books.
My friend Marilyn called me regularly to see how I was doing.
My daughter Maria called me daily.
My Mom and sister's church sent people to see me.
I had several IHD people call me, Okarol, Chris, Jean, Rerun, maybe others but I am fuzzy on a couple of days there.
Thank God for IHD.com if it were not for your support I would have shut down cawled under a rock and never come out again. Please keep pulling me out from under my rock.
Yes, it is time for a pain ill. 11:30 pm. 2 Vicodin and maybesom sleep tonight that is not so interrupted.
-
Kitkatz, I'll leave a trail of dark chocolate M&M's so you will come out in to the light :waving; ;D

Kitkatz, I'll leave a trail of dark chocolate M&'s so you will come out in to the light :waving; ;D
Someone better do something soon. I would follow a trail of dark chocolate M and Ms. Thanks Chris.

:grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; Love you Kitkatz!

Kit...you are such a trooper. Bitten by a shark, rammed by a surgeon without proper sedation, neglected by your co-workers of 12 years and still spitting nails! I'm sorry you had to go through all this and so happy you have come through with your feisty spirit. But, absolutely, you can whine, rant, vent, or anything else you want to do here. Do you want me to take the :Kit n Stik; to your school? Sounds like they deserve it. Maybe you should send a "thank you" card to the teachers lounge for all the support they gave you during this.
-
No more Vicodin ever! They make me crazy int e head, I think everytime I tried to go to sleep last night I was in tears. I finally ended up watching Public Television from 12 to 2 last night. Finally tried to crawl back in bed at three. Slept 4 to 6 a.m. Going to try to sleep today. I hurt bad last night. We shall see how I feel when the Vicodin effects wear off today. Back to Tylenol only.
-
No more Vicodin ever!
Can I have them? :o
You have every right to feel sad. Life sucks pretty much on dialysis but sucks rocks when things are going bad on dialysis.
Things will get better you just need to heal. And let them fire you! Take them to court and make a couple cool million.
Sorry.... I'm not cheering you up am I? :cuddle;
-
Our resident superwoman has really had her fill of challenges (AGAIN). I am so glad that you are out of the hospital. So sorry that you are still feeling pain. Hang in there girl. We are with you all the way. :grouphug;
-
I am so sorry for your pain. I'm also surprised the co-workers at your school failed to follow up on your health in any way. No card? No phone calls? Maybe they thought they should leave you alone to heal, though that doesn't explain the lack of a get well card. Or maybe they didn't really know what was going on because the Principal was confidential about your health problems. I guess I'm just trying to come up with some rational for their behavior. I will say that when I was being treated for Goodpastures Disease for six months I received only one get well card from the staff and one from my students. I think school staff are so overworked already it must get hard for them to think beyond what's going on in the classroom. Not much of an excuse, I know, but usually teachers are notable for their support of one another. Get well soon. Give yourself plenty of time to heal, you deserve it. You have really been through a very difficult time.
-
So sorry about the people who you work with and who you work for. Some one needs to be sorry for them, what a thoughtless lot they are. You know they have been told you are ill, but probably have no idea what happened. Still!!!!! What a bunch of turds. You have just had the crap beaten out of you during this time, and it makes you feel helpless, but, you will heal and be back to yourself again and hopefully soon. Vicodin can give you some scary dreams too, so you are not sleeping well either. You will be better soon Kit, I am sure of you.
-
Tylenol with codeine today. The D doc gave me a prescription last night. I was in tears from hurting last night. Been in tears every day at some point since surgery.
The Pit of Despair called, has a spot for me right now. :rofl;
-
Oh Kit, I can just imagine what your are going through. Remember to take moment by moment and then day by day. Here is a hug. :cuddle;
-
Come on kitkatz you can climb out of this, may take a while but we all have faith in you.
-
:grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;
-
Wish I had some encouraging words to say or something smart :sir ken; but I can't think of anything
-
:flower; :flower; :flower; I hope it gets better my friend. :cuddle;
-
Okarol called today. Great to hear your voice.
Tylenol with codeine really has helped the pain today. I was not groaning alld ay long and cn breath without wanting to scream. I also took a two hour nap this afternoon. Recovery will be quicker without all of that pain, I hope.
-
That's good news that the pain relief is kicking in.
-
Finally, a little relief. On the comedy side, I had to have a fingernail yanked out today and for this I got 2 shots of lidocaine. I get lidocaine, for a little bitty thing, and you get nothing for the "big thing".
Where is the logic in this???? I guess they can tell the difference between a tough broad and a wimp. Me being the wimp.Keep getting better Kit.
-
:rant; Recovering is such a bit**. Taking a sponge bath today left me breathless and almost in tears. It taes two of us to do a sponge bath. I HATE not being able to take a nice wet shower! I washed my hair int he sink with hubby's help. I cannot do almost anything my self. Mom took me to Target. I had to get out of the house and away from Hubby for a few hours. I love him and he is being really caring and nice, but aaarrrgggh, after awhile. I cannot even hug him because I hurt. It is frustrating right now! I mostly and independent person and I hate not being able to do things for myself.
Okay enough whining! :rant;
I feel better, though. My arm looks better than it did. I go see surgeon tomorrow and maybe get staples pulled. Ouchie!
-
I feel like ranting right along with you Kitkatz and completely understand the frustration of everything being slow, dependent on others and exhausting as well. I hope every day gets a little bit easier for you. :grouphug;
-
:-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Make those chocolate kisses - the best kind!
-
Hi Kitz....
Hope yopu're healing well, and those staples came out easier than you thought!...
Love and :grouphug;
Darth...
-
The staples are off my arm. Hurray! I just have little steri strips across a few of the scars. When they come off, wha la, it should look good. The upper arm is still healing, but looks good.
-
Finally some progress. I hope you are starting to feel better Kitkatz.
:grouphug;
-
I am feeling better. By the way thanks for your card. It is so me!
-
Glad you're doing well, Kitz....
Great to hear good news!...
Did they ever establish how you aquired MRSA???... The last time Mum was in hosp., I insisted that she be swabbed for it on her admission.... The hosp. did it and then asked me why I had asked for it... I replied "Well, now that we know that Mum doesn't have it on admission, if God forbid, she DOES get it, we'll know EXACTLY where she got it from, won't we???"... You'd be amazed how much more careful the staff were about hand washing when dealing with Mum after that!!!!!....
As you know better than most, it's a dreadful thing to get, and I was doing my very best to keep Mum safe from it!.... When she was on haemo, if she was in hospital for any reason, the clinic swabbed her on her return to the clinic....
Keep getting better, Kitz.....
Love...
C.....
-
So good to hear you are much better Kitkatz! :cuddle; Keep on keeping on!
-
Progress!!
-
Since it was in the dialysis graft and that was where the surgeon found pus. I will say it started there. They finally let me out of the hospital five days clear of MRSA turning up in the blood work. Just one of those things that happens, I guess. Today I felt like sleeping so I did. Pain is less and less every day. The arm is looking better. I have my moods.
-
Less pain is always good! :2thumbsup;
-
Great that the pain is lessening...
That's probably why you want to sleep.... Lots to catch up on......
Love...
Darth....

I have had glucoma since I was 47. I got a staff infection in my eye
and it nearly killed me. At the time I was a hairdresser. I asked the Dr. how I would get the infection in my eye. He said most likely one of my patrons came in with it and because my eyes were the weakest part of my body, because of the glucoma, it went straight to the eye.
So you most likely came in contact with it and it went straight to your
graft. So glad you are on the mend. Take care of yourself now.
Love, Mimi
-
I am feeling better. Pain last night at dialysis. Did not take the major pain killer beforehand. Bad idea. No sleep last night from 12:30 to 3:30. I came home and slept for hours this morning. I have stayed home all day and just tried to relax. My arm looks a lot better. It is healing. The catheter in my chest only feels like one mail, instead of three pounded into it.
-
So glad to hear you are feeling a little better Kit. If I were you I would not leap to go back to work either. Take your time and get really better.
-
The pain is going away. Instead of feeling like there are three nails jammed into my chest, I feel like maybe a stapler got me two times.
My hubby has been a blessing. He brought me breakfast in bed one day and dinner a few times too. I am not lying in bed all day. Mostly on the computer doing things. He changes my bandages for me and takes good care of me. He has been really sweet.
My depression is lifting as the pain leaves, thank goodness. There was a few time I felt I was losing my mind.
Thanks for all the support from my IHD.com friends.
-
THanks for a very reassuring update, Kitkatz! We need our resident superwoman totally healed and back on task! :cuddle;
-
good! glad to hear things are going better. you are a blessing to all of us kit. i find having you in my life is a great comfort.
-
You always do so much to help and support others, Kitkatz. I know this must have been tough on you, missing work, being away from the little darlings, feeling like crap and adjusting to the new access. Thank God you've got Victor, I love that guy! I pray things get easier and you can do more of the things you enjoy. I'll bet the kids miss you too! Take care my friend!
-
Good to hear that you're feling a bit better, Kitz...
Keep it up!...
Love...
Darth....
-
Thanks folks. I always figure I am too dumb to know better. when it comes to moving on and getting recovered.
I visited school today. Saw my 5th period kids. Did some things that had to be done on campus. Spent about an hour Came home weak as a kitten.
I am going to lunch later today and to the Goodwill. Maybe a nap in the afternoon. Maybe in chat 5 pm. The D at 8p.m. Thank God for Tylenol with codeine through dialysis and the shot of Benadryl they give me to sleep there. Hallelujah for Good DRUGS!
-
You're sounding sparkier!
-
Atta girl Kit, enjoy those drugs, they were made to help you thru this anyways. Glad to hear you are beginning to feel more like a human being now.
-
Two days with little catheter/chest pain. I am not saying anything to not jinx it. It itches. The arm is healing nicely.
-
Such Very good news. I am not saying anything to jinx it either.
-
Soldier on!
-
UPDATE
I saw my surgeon today. You know the guy that bit my left arm. He is gong to bite it again for the fistula July 7. He says I can go back to work on Friday. I guess he figured if I snuck out of town to Milwaukee I can go back to work. :rofl; He thought I looked good. He said the fistula would be amde first then he would raise it to the top of the arm for better needling. Oh what fun it will all be. I am not looking forward to it, but am glad it will be all done soon.
-
Best of luck, Kit! Will be thinking of you in July.... :bestwishes;
-
Hope it all goes well, Kitz...
All the very best of luck...
Darth...
-
You look good and you sound good, and I am glad you are getting along so much better. I guess I must be inherently lazy. When the Dr. asked me if I wanted to go back to work, I said " Nope" Not now, not ever, so I drew my disability for a year and then totally gave up on the idea for life. However, I more than make up for that with all the volunteer work I do.
-
UPDATE: I finished the last three days of school June 15th.
Now I have a preop tomorrow morning at Kaiser for fistula. Surgery next Wednesday.
-
Good luck with that, kitkatz.
-
Hang in there! I hope it all goes well and that you recover quickly without a fuss.
hugs
-
Hope it all goes well for you Kit.
-
Preop went fine today. The same person I saw a year ago did my preop today. Got stuck v=for blood twice, once by a nurse, once by the lab tech; the lab tech got the blood finally. They seem amazed I am perking along okay. I saw the anesthesia people. They are going to try a local with some happy juice during the op on Wednesday.
Pray for me. I feel like I need it now,
-
Will do Kit :pray; :pray;
-
:cuddle;
-
Love you Girlfiend.xoxoxoxox :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle;
-
I'm playing a bit of catch-up ... this sucks! I'm sorry you are going through it, but glad the infection was caught, and that you are getting better. I'll be getting a fistula about a week after you so maybe we can compare notes - oh and maybe pictures. Missed ya!
-
How are you doing now, Kitkatz? I keep thinking about you.
Fox-nc So good to see you here again!! :2thumbsup;
-
I need good vibes. I am actually scared of Wednesday's surgery. Should go fine. I have a good surgeon.
-
Very best of luck, Kitz...
I'm sure your op will go very well...
Hard to keep a good cat down!....

I'll be with you in spirit on Wednesday, Kitkatz, and most of all I'll be hoping for a smooth surgery and the best possible outcome. It is scary to have to go through so much, no matter how much you've been through already. Too much is too much already. :cuddle;
-
Kit, I'll be thinking of you Wednesday and sendng you all the good vibes and wishes I can! :grouphug;
-
My prayers are with you my dear sister Kitkatz, I have not kept very good tabs on my peeps lately so I am sorry You have been going through so much crap. Take all the time you need to rest and recuperate. Let me know if there is anything short of taking your place that I can do to help. I love ya girl but I will not take your place... :rofl; :rofl; You will be fine. :pray; :pray;
-
I am sure everthing will go OK for you old one ;D I will be thinking of you with your big stick, which i seem to get more than a lot of other patients on this board :angel; I don't now why ;D Keep you chin up. Plus remember the renal patient saying "RENAL PATIENTS NEVER GIVE UP!" It kept me going through some hard times. It will also keep you :2thumbsup;
Kevno :cuddle;

I'm sorry we didn't get to have lunch today Kitkatz, but hopefully the surgery will go well and we can do something special next week! I am happy to hear you've got faith in your surgeon - that's worth a million bucks! Take care! xoxoxo
:flower;
-
:flower; Quick recovery for you Kitkatz and a perfect fistula.
-
Wishing you all the best, kitkatz.
-
My prayers are with you Kat. When I had my surgery it was a piece of cake. Course it never worked, but that's OK I have not needed it yet. On Wednesday the sun will be shining, the prayers will be floating, and God will be with you. Don't be afraid God's everlasting arms will be beneath you.
Love, Mimi
-
Oh, Kit. People round the world are sending you their best, and I am one of them! :flower;

Surgery came, it happened. I feel awful right now. I have twenty six staples in my arm right in my elbow area where the arm bends on the inside. I am currently trying not to snarl at family in the house. I spent yesterday resting and sleeping. Today resting, but hurting a little more. This sucks right now.
-
So sorry to hear that you are in pain. My caring thoughts are with you. :cuddle; Hope you soon get relief. But I am glad the surgery is over.
-
Sorry you are in all that pain again. Hopefully you got a good one and the surgery stuff is over for you. :cuddle;
-
:( Poor girl. I hope you can take it easy and heal.
-
26 Staples?? Are they all from this weeks surgery? Ok now I'm really freaked - well more freaked ... I'm having my surgery on Tuesday ???
-
Excuse me, 28 staples.
Graphic pics included here.
Pic 1- What the arm looks like.
Pic 2- Across the upper part of the arm to below the elbow.

And YES, it hurts!
-
I feel for you. :P

-
Excuse me, 28 staples.

-
What MM said: OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWw

-
Excuse me, 28 staples.

-
Sorry I missed this thread earlier. My jaw just dropped. I hope that you are feeling better SOON. Seriously, my jaw will be dropped for quite a while. You are an amazing survivor in all that you have been through in the past few months.
:grouphug;
-
:bow; Ironwoman!
-
Go Kitkatz!
-
Oh OUCH!!!!! That really looks like it hurts. Did you then have to go to dialysis after the surgery? Poor baby, wish I could do something for you. Hope you begin to heal well and soon.
-
Yes, I did dialysis about four hours after surgery for eight hours. It sucked.
-
Looks like they took the arm off and reattached it. Damn girl... hopefuly it will heal fast.
-
What the heck did they do ?????
Build a fistula? or break an arm.
I hope you feel better soon.. ;D
-
:rant;
I am cranky today., I feel so frustrated on the inside right now! My arm hurts and I cannot get a good night's sleep without drugs. I tried last night and it sucked rocks. My arm does not have a comfortable position. And no one really gives shit about it, but me! I am cranky, can you tell?
:rant;
-
Aww Kit - so sorry you're in pain. I know it is hot today, but can you take a nap?
When does Dr. Sharkbite remove the stitches?
:grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;
-
Dr Sharkbite, I like that name! The stitches are out next Monday, not this coming Monday. I am calling if he can see me sooner on Monday. The stitches itch and are turning my skin red. They need to come out soon.
-
I am so sorry, my beloved Kitkatz. I wish there was something I could do to make you feel better. My caring thoughts and prayers are with you. :cuddle; But you will get through this. This is my resident superwoman - she HAS to get through this.
-
TAKE THE DRUGS!!!!!
-
TAKE THE DRUGS!!!!!
:2thumbsup; :2thumbsup; :2thumbsup;
Itching means healing. I think vitamin e oil will help but better check that it's ok to use on incisions.
-
The stitches are out!!! I called Kaiser and told them I was going to take tem out myself and they needed to see me asap. They had me come into see one of the nuses in the surgical. She called the doctor int he OR for instructions and and okay to remove them. Mya rm aches but not as bad as the stitches ached.
I was ready to chew my arm off at the shoulder by Wednesday.
-
great to hear that all is going well.
-
I am not sure if arms are included in the renal diet.
-
Galvo, what a wild sense of humor you have. See, Kit, with friends like this, you always have a laugh from somewhere.
-
Boy, I know my Kitkatz would get things done! I have seen her in action!!!!
