Title: My story
Post by: steve lowry on November 22, 2006, 06:42:48 AM
I had my first kidney stone attack at age 9,they removed it with a cistoscope.Got them again at age 14,16,18,20,21 they removed them by surgery.Thats 5 surgery's.At that time they removed one of my kidneys and a third of the other kidneyThey said they had to do it because they were damaged?.For 33 years I have been living with 2/3Rd's of one kidney. In the last 33 years I have had kidney stones 6 more times,I once lay ed in a tub of water and they used sound waves to blow them up,the other 5 times I passed them. This past spring I passed a stone, and it damaged my remaining 2/3Rd's of a kidney. Now I am on dialysis.

What a rough road, Steve, and it began so young!  Hope all the surgeries are behind you now, got to get something out of all this, right!?  Best of luck~ what type of dialysis are you on?

Welcome Steve!  :welcomesign; Wow .. were you shocked when they told you that you would have to go on dialysis? I am only asking because going through this for a long time I don't know if you were told you might end up on it one day or not.

Wow it's only a couple of weeks away then!

As Angela said, please come back and tell us how it went, we want all the details!

I hope your transplant will be a success, and that you never have to live with dialysis again!

I may have a problem, they told my wife today that her kidneys are too small to donate, but they are going to have an expert on Monday review her catscans, and then let her know for sure?

Uhm, wow... they didn't find this out when they did all the testing? Why did they schedule your transplant already if they didn't approve her yet? Something don't sound right... very wierd. They aren't supposed to schedule your surgey until all testing is done and your donor is approved.  I hope everything goes well though.. keep us posted.
