Title: Not whingeing!
Post by: MooseMom on March 29, 2010, 02:06:31 PM
I am the first to admit that I have done pretty much nothing but whinge since joining IHD.  I am not going to apologize for that because I don't want anyone who posts here to ever feel like they have to apologize for unleashing their fears and worries regarding IHD; that's one reason why this forum exists.  But for all of those people who have encouraged me and other newbies along the way, I just wanted to share two small pieces of good news.  It is pretty rare for me to get good news these days, so when I do, I want to shout it from the rooftops.

1.  I got the results from my stress test (for the pretransplant protocol)...NORMAL!  I was really worried about this particular test; I don't know why.  I've never had any cardiac issues, so I guess I was afraid that there was some sneaky heart thing that would preclude me getting on the list.  There is one cardiac test result outstanding, but the tech let slip that she thought everything looked good (it was an echocardiogram).

2.  I went back to the vascular surgeon today to have the stitches removed from my fistula.  I have to say that my arm has been much more painful than I thought it would be; I get shooting, nervy pains down my numbed wrist that are very disconcerting, so I was worried that the surgeon would take off the bandages and would faint because my arm was about to fall off or something.  But no, he said that it looked "excellent" and that he'd put it in "the A++ category."

So, yeay me for once!

Actually MooseMom, in my book those of two of the best pieces of news to receive at this point in your journey.  Heart issues are serious and can complicate so many things we deal with and a good fistula is truly something to be thankful for as anxiety around it's functioning can be huge and cause tremendous stress every time we must cannulate or be cannulated.  (I say this with Des especially on my mind right now.)

As for constant whingeing ...that's certainly not how I've experienced you at all.  I've appreciated your honesty about your fears and anxieties and admired your courage to face them.  And btw, what make not feel like courage can still appear as such to others looking in from the outside.  You just keep on using this forum in any way that is helpful to you and you can be assured that someone out there will be going through what you describe.

Thrilled about your great news.  :cuddle;

I still am feeling angry for Des; no one should have to go through something like that.  I sure hope that whatever the problem is, it is sorted out very quickly.

I went for almost 15 years without any treatment at all for my fsgs other than being prescribed blood pressure meds.  No one ever mentioned anything about high blood lipids or prerenal diets or anything at all about the many varied issues that run parallel to CKD.  When I first began treatment, my cholesterol was 550 and triglycerides 2100.  I've always been concerned about any accumulative damage that might have been done during those early years of CKD.  Maybe there IS damage that I just don't know about yet, but at least I've had five years of pretty aggressive treatment since.

I don't know how someone overcomes the effects of events like that experienced by Des.  I guess all you can do is press on and hope that next time will be better.  It's like a nightmare come true, and I think we all know a bit what that feels like.

It's ok, there's always someone else with the same problems, you are just like a lot of new patients, unsure, and knervous, there's absolutely no problem with that.

Oh man, I wish I could!  Sounds like your fistula is still in working order, so that's something!  How are you feeling today?  How is your poor arm?  I hope you are finding some nice way to treat yourself after Monday's fiasco; you deserve some little indulgence!

I also had kittens before my cardiac stress test. Probably because I knew that if I failed I would be taken off the transplant list that means so much to me. Got re-tested recently and passed as well. Good news for you and should be a load off your mind.

Exactly.  I have worked so hard for so long to keep myself as healthy as possible because getting on that list means the world to me.  I can't imagine being on the list and then having to be taken off, so I am so very glad that your re-testing gave you a good conclusion!  You keep up the good work!
