I've posted here and on my blog about how I've been feeling progressively worse over the past few months.
But just like I've fought off Dialysis for the last six years, I wasn't going to go quietly into the night and let Dialysis win. Screw him and his bad oral hygiene and gaseous clouds of spewing verbal diarrhea.
A rather tasteless soup of extreme fatigue, dizziness, room spinning and terrible acne was combining to make me ridiculously miserable.
So after many hours of research online, here's what I did:
1) I started taking Powerdophilus (a powerful version of acidophilus) to help balance my intestinal bacteria. As Dialysis patients, we take a ridiculous amount of medications that push our intestinal tract off balance. This gives your digestion and general well being a fighting chance.
2) I started using lemon juice on my face after every shower. Yes, it stings and makes your skin itch. But it works better than any of these doctor prescribed medications and topical creams. I wait five minutes, wash it off with cold water, and add a moisturizer afterward. (being 39 with acne is soul crushing)
3) Most importantly, I started taking a renal supplement. You can go to Renalabs.com and choose from one of three supplements. Each bottle contains 120 tablets that you take once a day. I ordered a year's supply for $30! I also spoke to the gentleman on the phone, and he says a new version with Vitamin D should be out by the end of the year.
I've only been taking the supplement for a week and I have to say I feel much better. I just recorded seven hours of radio and finished a great workout. Finally getting back to the life I want and deserve.
I take the supplement right after Dialysis so it can replace the nutrients immediately. On off days, I take it with my morning medications.
I hope what I've learned can help you as well.

Are these safe for any renal patient?

I would consult with your physician first, but usually they work for everyone. They're specially formulated to return vitamins and minerals lost during Dialysis.
I'm not really sure why they have three different supplement versions. But the 1-800 number on the site was answered quickly. Their customer service was great on the phone and they arrived within 48 hours without a shipping charge.
I'm not saying this is a cure all. But I am definitely feeling better and my skin is starting to heal normally again.

My doctor prescribed renalcaps for me - a powerful multiple vitamin supplement. With my copay, I pay $20 for a three-month supply. I have also just started taking fish oil capsules.
Can't say I feel any differently. I have been feeling pretty good since beginning PD about 8 mos. ago.
Good luck Stacy. Glad to hear about your good results.

I take neprocaps and my dietition says they are working well, but if they stop may check into this.
