Title: Could it be Menopause
Post by: cookie2008 on March 19, 2010, 08:08:48 PM
Im 44 been doing hemo since July of 2008, I was told at my center that I could go thru early menopause due to the dialysis, While I havent seen that yet my period has been the worst since Ive had it.  In Nov 09 it started to be really bad and still is, since Im on home hemo six days a week Im thinking the heparin Im using is some of the cause but Im told no, and also my gyno said Im not in early menopause.  Has anyone else having this type of problem or has had it in the past and what did you do to help control it.

Is it possible that your bad periods have nothing to do with dialysis?  Could you maybe have fibroids?  That's a common cause of excessive bleeding.

Oh, believe me, it's the stinkin' heparin!  Talk about a full moon tide.  I had to carry changes of clothes and an armload of supplies to D before I figured out how to solve the problem.  They give that "your periods will stop" lecture to everyone.  Total BS from docs and nurses fond of cookie cutter answers to patients--- there's even a member on here who had a baby on D because they told her there was no way she could get pregnant!

Check out Mirena IUD's - they take minutes to put in, last 5 years, and cut the flow volume down to next to nothing. The hormone dosage is so low that they are one of the first forms of hormonal birth control approved for diabetics.  I love mine, and have no intention of giving it up even now that I've had the transplant.

I am an endometrial ablasion done after transplant because of the heavy bleeding. I had IV iron treatments because I was so anemic. I understand where you are coming from.

i had really heavy bleeding for three months and then I had a D&C and I haven't had any bleeding since.  It was a fibroid and once it was removed the bleeding stopped.  It is very common in women over 40.  And yes, the heparin did make the bleeding worse straight after dialysis but it is more likely girl problems leading up to menopause.
