Title: Cycler Noise
Post by: needleup on March 19, 2010, 11:10:29 AM
Hi All:

I've been home with my cycler for about 3 months now & an unforseen problem is that my upstairs neighbor is complaining about the cycler noise at night.  I sometimes dialyze until midnight or 1 a.m. because it's the only time that fits into my schedule, but the noise is starting to cause a real problem for my neighbor.

Would be very interested to hear if any of you have had success in dampening the noise of your cycler.

I can't believe that a neighbor would make this kind of complaint, Is this person spending the evening with their ear glued to the floor? When Sharon is on, I have to strain to hear the machine when I am just down the hall a short ways from it. Invite your landlord into the room and let them hear the machine and Pureflow in operation (during priming maybe) this should hopefully put an end to it. keep us informed.....

Are you talking about a NxStge machine?  That is crazy!  There is absolutely no way your neighbor can hear the machine....excepting alarms going off.

Sounds like your neighbor just likes to complain, when Im on my machine everyone in the next room can hardly hear it.

My husbands machine can not even be heard by my daughter who sleeps in the next room and her head is right on the wall behind the machine.  My husband and I are the same way, we dialyzes when it fits into our schedule and are on the machine a lot of times until 1 or 2 am, my daughter never complains. The only thing that can be heard outside our room is the alarms.

Well, I do have to sympathize with her since she says she has bad insomnia - as a kidney patient I sure know how that goes!  Unfortunately, she's being a little heavy-handed about the whole thing, so I hope it doesn't get too unpleasant.

We live in an apartment on the third floor. (I hate supply delivery day)
Sometimes dh runs late into the night. Never had a complaint from any of our neighbors, but the downstairs family  is much nosier than us!  :P
I would compare the noise to having a fan running, constant hum of vibration, irritating if you are a light sleeper I guess.
Hopefully your neighbor will find some understanding when she realizes it's not like you have a choice. Maybe offer to buy her a fan to run to drown out the noise? Good luck! We dealt with a crabby neighbor downstairs that insisted on propping all the fire doors open.. complaining of "smells".. well gee, I complain that I don't want to die in a fire and we pull out the door stoppers.  :urcrazy;
Our owner finally put in emergency auto closer doors.  :cheer:
