Hi guys and gals.

46 year old male here, getting ready to start dialysis.  I've known about my degrading kidney function for about 12 years, but recently things have taken a turn for the worst.

I live in Washington State, on Whidbey Island, and I've been in the Navy for 28 years.  I plan to retire in September.

I have had my fistula for about a month, but haven't used it yet.  Tomorrow, I go for my PD cat consult and imagine that will happen very soon.

I'm choosing PD and night cycling to start - we'll see where the road leads from there.

I've been married to my high school sweetheart for 25 years - we've been together for 32 years.  She's super-supportive and the reason I get up everyday.

I love motorcycles (I ride a goldwing), cars, music, computers, movies, and anything technical...  I have also rediscovered my love for reading (it's amazing what a good set of bifocals can do for you)..  Horror, thrillers and suspense are my favorite themes.  We also love camping.

I look forward to sharing and learning from you guys.

Creatinine is currently 13 and potassium is 5.6 - but I still feel fine.  Fingers crossed.

Hey! My cousin lives on Whidbey Island. I visited a couple of years ago and could not believe how gorgeous it is!
It sounds like you are well prepared for dialysis and I hope all goes well for you.

Hi Bob welcome to IHD. Good idea to have a fistula ready in case APD doesn't suit you. Is your condition PKD by any chance? I'm asking because I too had no symptoms when my blood results reached levels where dialysis became necessary. It seems that some PKD patients can be assymptomatic in spite of high creatine anf urea levels

Hi Bob, welcome to the siteor should I say welcome to the family. You did really well keeping off dialysis for 12 tears, my husband was the same. Then the day comes and you think shi* is it really happening, this is scary.Bob you will be fine, learn as much as you can from people here and from different web sites. PD is a good way to start, more gentler. Look forward to seeing you post, ask as many questions even if they seem daft to you there will always be some one on here that will have an answer for you.   :welcomesign;

Bob, I'm in Spokane.  Welcome to IHD.  I went to a Fly In once on Whidbey.  It was great! 

PD is your best choice in my opinion.  Just do what they say and be very clean and you will do fine.

Welcome to the group, Bob.  This is a great place to get information and make friends.  Be sure and keep us up to date on how you're doing.  I'm another on on PD, living in Southern California.
