Title: Christmas presents for men...what do you guys want?
Post by: Sara on November 15, 2006, 03:45:07 PM
I am HORRIBLE at picking out Christmas presents for Joe.  I need fresh ideas.  In previous years, I've done the weight bench, the tool set, the table saw, the X-box.  I really want to try to keep gifts for him under $200.00 because we don't have a lot of extra money.  Any ideas?  I need "bigger items" that I can wrap, and some smaller, cheaper items for stocking stuffers.

Guys...what are you hoping for this holiday season?
Girls...what are you getting those men in your lives?

Sara, he will need a DVD player.  I know it is dialysis related, but it would be piratical.   ALL guys like tools for stocking stuffers.  It doesn't matter how many screw drivers they have, they love "just one more."

DVD player is a good idea, but we already have one at home, and he sleeps through dialysis.   :-\

How about a nice hammock.  All men love those.  They are pretty expensive if you get the nice standing ones.

Got a talking tire gauge and a life hammer from Restoration Hardware for a friend.  Both were a hit.  Small enough for stockings if need be.

Hmm, you got him a X-box, how about a couple new games?

I am in the same boat as you.  I have no idea what to buy the hubby for Christmas this year.  Bought him a big fat nothing for his birthday!  A t-shirt for our anniversary.  He is not working anymore and work tools are not his thing now.  He has a hobby, but it is specialized information and expensive.

My ideas:
Maybe you could get him one of the kidney gear T-shirts to wear to dialysis.
Boxer shorts with Scooby Doo on them  :rofl; :rofl;
Hawaiian shirt

All boys like toys - no matter how old they are.

Check out the toy section for the new remote control cars - some of the new ones are so small you can run them around on a desk top.  I gave one to hubby for Valentine's, and he had a blast with it at work.  (He was working as a car salesman at the time.)  Now it's home for a cat toy - you can't let it stop or my little kitty picks it up and carries it away like it's a mouse.

Rock Em Sock Em Robots is back on the market.  My sister got one for the "little kids" last year for the big family Xmas party - but the big boys had more fun with than the kids did.

The little hand-held electronic poker, solitaire and slot games are always fun, and they are cheaper than ever.  I got one for a friend stuck in the hospital for only a couple of bucks.

What toys did he like as a kid?  How about a model train set, or a build-it-yourself model airplane?

Does he like puzzles?  Some of the new 3-D ones are pretty cool.

How about an iPod?  All of the guys I know love them.  You can get expensive video iPod's, but there's an iPod Shuffle that holds about 240 songs that's under $100.00, or the new iPod Nano that's about $150.00.

How about ideas for the man who hates technology stuff?  I am really stuck for ideas.  I love some of the ideas you have put out here, but I have a fuddy-duddy.  I thought about buying him his own computer, but that would need a lot of cash and time to teach him how to use it.  *sigh*

Does he like tools?  We got my dad a DeWalt cordless drill for Christmas and I thought the man would weep with joy.  He doesn't like technical stuff, either, but I've never known a guy who didn't like tools.  My dad and my uncle could spend a week looking at the Craftsman section at Sears.

If your guy doesn't like gadgets or tools, how about an in-home massage (or at a spa if you
think he might go) or a pedicure (I love guys with nice feet) or a gift card to take you to the
movies  :).
Here's another personal care item

hehehehe.

My hubby like gadgets - last Christmas I got him the anti-shake binoculars - they work great!
This year he has asked for this for star gazing http://www.celestron.com/skyscout/new/index.php.
On his last birthday I got him this razor http://dentalstore.stores.yahoo.net/braun76synsy.html
and he loves it!

Personally i hate socks and neck ties for Christmas, but thats what I always get from my grandma and my inlays. So I got lots!

I got my wife an Ipod 30gb Video one. I hope she lets me use it!

I like gadgets, tools, and Grill Supplies. Does he need a new grill? heh Those run as much as you want to pay for them. Hard to wrap though.

Also, my wife likes to get me jewelry.. I wasn't much of a jewelry wearer before I met her, but I have some nice necklaces. Some type of necklace with an engraving would be nice.

Those are my ideas,

Good luck!

I figured out how to wrap one of those.  We got a giant cast iron beast of a grill for my father in-law one year.  He's the king of the "guess the present" game, but we beat him at it for once.  I hid it in plain sight, completely wrapped, with a tag on it that said it was for his mother.  We told him it was a cement bird bath with a wind chime topper.  (Had to explain the rattling noise the metal rack was making inside the package.)  He never guessed, even when he had to help carry it inside to put it under the tree.
