Some fistulas clot off by themselves after transplant, my first one in my left forearm did that one year after my first transplant which lasted an amazingly lovely 23 years.  I now have an upper left arm fistula and one year and one week after my second transplant it is still buzzing away.
So,in my experience  they leave them.  I live in Canada by the way.
When is your transplant?  Is it a living donor or on the list for a deceased donor?

Fantastic!  My second transplant was from my brother's wife who lives in Florida but came here to Toronto to donate to me.  She was only in hospital 3 days and is doing great, as am I.  We'll all be following your journey too and waiting for updates.   :flower;

I know someone who's a guy that does heavy work with his arm and his fistula is 11 years old and because of the type of work he did it kept it going even when he had a transplant, his transplant failed, and they are able to use that same fistula. I think it depends on how much excercise you do with that arm or how much you use it to keep it pumping.
Good luck with your transplant!
