As I sit here in the Pacific Time Zone, only a couple of hours away from all the action, I DON'T get to watch it live!!!! Wha....? :urcrazy; Oh well, at least it gave me time to go to the store and change into my pj's! ;D
Anyway, are you watching them? Opening Ceremonies? Favorite sports? I'm excited to see Apolo Ohno take the gold :2thumbsup; and all the rest of the excitement that comes with it. How many of you are into the games?
On a sad note, my thoughts and prayers go to the friends and family of the luger who tragically died today while practicing his sport. Sad that the games have to start with such a tragic note. :'(

The Ice Skating US Finals were right here in Spokane and we couldn't watch them live and tickets were like $300. I love the Olympics.
-
I thought it was supposed to be on at 7:30, the opening ceremony, but NBC is showing other stuff now?

Weird, Karol. Here in the Seattle area we have the Opening Ceremonies that started at 7:30. The actual Ceremonies have yet to begin, but the show did start. Is it an Olympic show that you're seeing?
Rerun - I love the ice skating! That's crazy that host city Spokane couldn't watch those live! :urcrazy;
-
The actual opening ceremony began at 9 PM, but I missed it. Jenna watched it though.
-
The opening ceremony was really good. After China, I wondered how anything could compare. This was beautiful and very visual. I am an Olympic junkie so I know I will be watching anything I can. I love the city of Vancover. Great job, Canada, on a moving opening ceremony. :canadaflag; :2thumbsup;

Our newspaper, this morning, had the complete schedule for televised events to be aired on all the NBC owned networks. Don't forget to check CNBC, MSNBC, USA, as well as regular NBC.
I'm looking forward to Curling (not a big US sport, but it is interesting) and Hockey. I've never seen women's hockey that should be interesting. Most of my "events" will require recording to watch later. Like the 4 man bobsleg too.
Bad about the Georgian luge racer. :pray;
-
I love watcing curling! Isn't it fascinating? The broom guys are fun to watch. And of course, hockey! My family thought it would be Wayne Gretsky to light the torch. And did you see Bobby Or? I use to play field hockey (back in the day!) . It will be fun to see the women play.
And Apollo Ono---would love to see him break the record. :thumbup; Fun days ahead!

Any Sean White fans out there besides me?

My kids met him at XGames and signed their shirts. Very nice kid. :thumbup;

I don't understand how they decided to do the television coverage. We are in the same time zone as Vancouver, and are watching daytime events at night here on the west coast. We get them 3 hours later than the east coast....?? All day I hear results before it was broadcast, which kind of takes the thrill out of watching.
Curling is on now... really paris...? Fascinating is not the word that comes to mind. :rofl;

Soooo you went to the store to change into your pj's? That would have been a bit exciting for Apu!!! :rofl;
I would just like to point out that the games opening and closing ceremonies have been designed and produced by ... AUSSIES !!!!!

The men's long program in figure skating was so much fun! And yes, I love the curling! Anyone here ever been on a curling team? Wish I was a lot younger - I want to try it!!! I would be good as one of the "sweepers". Years of experience! :rofl; I am an Olympic junkie. I watch everything I can. And Richard---well done Aussies! The opening ceremony was marvelous. The visuals were fantastic.
And Shawn White? Love him! I love the USA skateboard team uniforms.
So many heartwarming stories and such incredible athletes. The Olympics always give me hope for our world. :grouphug;

Snowboarders ROCK! And exactly how crazy do you have to be to do the luge sports and go nearly a hundred miles an hour?? Hmmmmm maybe I should try it. I am not much of a sports person, but the Olympics bring out my cheering side. Speed....I love all the speed challenges....Downhill, Luge, Skeleton (which is COMPLETELY nuts). Oh yes....and Ohno.....my latest crush. He is sooo nice looking! Oh wait...we were talking about sports....I had a spandex flash! :rofl;
-
You guys make me laugh! I also am a Winter Olympics junkie...good thing it only happens every 4 years. I would have loved to be a snowboarder because I LOVE speed. The faster the better. And Wenchie...we might have to flip a coin for Ohno.
I loved the men's long program figure skating and was so glad Evan L won. He seems like a humble person and VERY talented.

Hey! As a native Washingtonian, *I* get first dibs on Apolo! :P
Seriously, though, he and J.R. Celski are amazing, and if they have a Welcome Home parade in downtown Seattle for them like they did for Apolo one year, I hope to be there, screaming my lungs out! Let's hear it for the Apolo Groupies!!! :beer1;
-
Oh yes Kare, I've been following quite a bit this year. Excitied that Apollo & Sean "flying tomato"White got gold. Anxious to see how the US/Canada hockey game fares on Sunday. That should pretty interesting and not even a hockey fan otherwise. I want the red mittens! I bet the're all warm and cozy inside lol. Enjoy the games while they last!
-
Okarol, curly is fancinating, especially when seen "in person". I know you still find that hard to believe. :(
Sunday's hockey game is going to be nothing short of great! :2thumbsup; Two great teams.
Wenchie58, be careful with those spandex dreams :rofl; :rofl;

Go Team USA Hockey :thumbup;
Super G and downhill skiing are my favorite to watch. But i like all the events.
Mexico was disqualified from the Curling events.
For using using leaf blowers.

I too, love the Winter Games! I think curling is fascinating also..but my favorite is the ice skating, they are all so pretty!
-
Me to the ice skating is wonderfull...... I use to ice skate alot when I was young..... I bet I cant do that now.....
-
Great win in hockey USA...well played and fantastic job by your goalie.
I have to say that although I love for our Canadian athletes to win medals, I really admire any athlete who clearly loves their sport and rocks their event. The thing that I most admire in sports is the spirit of good sportsmanship.
What cracks me up are some of the costumes in skating and have you seen the Norwegian Men's Curling team's pants. Too funny. Love it.

Best of the U.S.: One of the better stories on the men's side involves the resurgence of Chris Klug, who won a bronze medalist in 2002, a mere 19 months after his liver transplant. :cheer:
Olympic snowboarder, liver recipient, and U.S. Transplant Games spokesperson, Chris Klug made the U.S. team for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. His eponymous nonprofit organization, Chris Klug Foundation, wears its mission on its home page (www.chrisklugfoundation.org): "Promoting organ and tissue donation through action sports." The decision to become an organ donor can be made starting at age 18. Klug's group aims to reach high school kids through the "Donor Dudes" program, educating them about the issue to encourage them to be donors when they are of age or to talk to their parents about their wishes. The foundation held 75 events around the country last year.

I love figure skating - I think it is amazing to watch but am always too scared to actually try ice skating myself.
I aslo watch the curling. A few yrs back the scottish team that got gold in curling lived really close to me. In fact one of the team members lived only a few doors down from my best friend! It was quite a biggie thing over here (in my small area) for quite a while after that.
