I work in a call center. We aren't aloud to answer our phones while on the floor or on calls. We have to leave either on our break or after a call. My concern is I'll get the call while working either on a call or on the floor and it will have to go to voicemail and I may miss an opertunity.
My question is have any of you been in my situation? if so how did you handle it? Did you give your transplant center your managers number to call?

I think that would be a good idea when you are in a situation where you can't answer your own phone during work time.
I have heard of all kinds of stories of contacting/finding people when a offer comes in - like sending staff into the Casino to find people gambling, or sending the water police out after people who have gone fishing... I am sure they can alert you at work! :)

Could you wear a pager that only the transplant center has the number to? Before cell phones, center use to give them to patients. Just a thought.

gee do Pagers still exist these days??
Good idea Paris - hopefully the boss would be understanding that the pager is only for this and only this purpose so it's not going to go off all the time!! Hopefully only once is required!!
The other option if no pager is a dedicated pre-paid phone with a unique number given JUSt to the transplant team under the understanding that that is all it is for? maybe have it on silent vibrate in the pocket or something so you'd know....

You are waiting for a transplant. Carry the damn phone, leave it on, and tell your bosses to deal with it. How long are your calls? I usually had 40 min or more to get back to the transplant coordinator (1 hr from centers acceptance of offer), so unless you are on calls for more than 20 minutes or so, you should be fine.

My sister Carmel works ina call centre and we have the manaager's number if we need to get her. I'd give them that.

Usually the transplant centers suggest that you leave a work number or managers number so you can be in contact if a transplant is for you. So notify your manager and the transplant center, set your phone to vibrate and learn the area code and first 3 numbers of your transplant center so you will notice it's them on your caller ID if they try to call you on your cell. See if the transplant center does text messaging also as one more suggestion.

When my daughter was on the waiting two times we were able to get a pager from Telebeep and CellularOne ,local cellphone businesses in Nebraska. They have programs where if you are on a waiting list they will provide a pager for free. Be worth checking into.
