Title: Moderators are People too....(joke heading but not a joke post)
Post by: dwcrawford on January 24, 2010, 11:47:57 AM
I am starting this new thread and asking cooperation from all my friends and my few enemies alike.  As you know, most of (if not all) of the moderators do this job on a volunteer basis.  Yes, they get fed up with some of us (mostly me) pretty often, but they do a very good job keeping things going while getting lots of flax from us.

Here’s my proposition.  Let us keep this thread open for individual “atta boys” for jobs particuarlly over and above reading and editing posts.  Don’t overdo it so as to let remarks in here remain special.  What I mean is no “I like Paris” or “okarol is neat” but rather specific things that they should be proud of and recognized for.  I’ll site two real examples of recent things (but it would be better if one post were limited to one incident and one moderator) that I’ve noticed.  It isn’t up for people to agree or disagree.  Just state what you truly appreciate.

1.   Kitkatz started what could be a fantastic thread called “Bible Study”.  It was a beautiful approach with a quote and a follow up question “what does this mean to you”.  Whether or not we accept the Bible as absolute, it contains many beautiful and life affirming passages.  I loved that thread idea and hope someday to be able to participate in it.  With a follow up question like “what does this mean to you” there could be no opening for an argument.  Brilliant question.
2.   Rerun did a fabulous job a week or so ago when a spammer came in the forum.  She went into chat and calmed all the excited people down.  People were nervous about who might and who might not click on the links.  Then she calmly reported the Spammer to Sluff and got it stopped right away.  I particularly admired the way she handled the situation.

Just two that I’ve recently noticed.  Make your comment clearer than mine and one at a time.

If I’m over the line here asking for this, just delete it before it gets started.  Maybe we should wait for a sign of approval before starting it.  I'll just get out of the way now.

I think this is a great way for us to recognize the work that our moderators and administrators do.

So, I'm adding my  :twocents;

We all know that Okarol has had her hands full being with Jenna while she is having her treatments for rejection.

And yet, Okarol is carrying on with her volunteer work here at IHD. I find that absolutely amazing. And strong. And I appreciate her sense of duty to IHD and to us.

Am I allowed to post here?   ;D

When Epoman died I pretty much let go.  I did not see how the site could go on.  But, Sluff and Goofynina and then later Karol took control.  Karol is healthy and strong and we need someone like her to keep us going.  Sluff has some health issues, but again he has a high energy level and True Grit. (Rooster)

Kitkatz is always there to catch the slack and I don't know what we would do without her.

Bananajane (That is how I spell it) has never given up on the site.  Thanks~

Thanks for keeping this site alive all the other Moderators too.

When I first came on this site I could not post a picture, so Karol jumped in and said, send it to me and I will do it. Volunteering, as always. It was highly appreciated. Plus, and on the side, who posts all of the info for us. That would be Karol. Job well done, and thanks a bunch!!!

I find Rerun speaks her mind and that is good for all of us.

Bajanne is a special lady...sensitive and loving with a heart of gold.

Paris keeps me sane as my reading IHD.com posts buddy and moderator.  Without her  support a few times this last year I would have gone to hell in a handbasket.

Epofriend has kept the Spanish part of the site going singlehandedly. I don't know how he does it.

Boxman- I miss him. I wish I knew how he was doing.

Okarol is a strong admin and keeps an eye on everyone and everything here. She keeps this site going.

Sluff is tremendous.  What a great guy!  He is here offering support to everyone. He manages to keep the site going, too.

And then there is me with the big stick.  I just try to keep up with it.

I admirer everyone who is involved in keeping this site going. You are helping people communicate with others to get through the rough times and to give advice and support to each other. This site helps everyone from first being diagnosed with kidney disease to transplant and for some yes death. YOU are keeping Epoman's vision a reality and for that I thank you. You are a group of very dedicated people!  THANK-YOU!

Thank you Okarol and Sluff for taking care of the internal hacker situation so quickly.

I would like to brag on Okarol.  I pm'd her this morning with a technical issue.  She responded almost immediately.  What a great crew of admins we have!  Thanks to all of you for all you do to keep IHD up and running!

I was amazed how quickly one of the mods helped me when I'd lost a thread.  It's incredible how good they are when ti's relly charity work.

Paris

Well, I've posted this several places before but in a slightly different context.  When I stumbled upon this site back in March frightened and confused and feeling lost, Paris was the first one to visit with me in the chatroom and truly welcome me.  Of course, we have become fast friends since this and I rarely think of her as a moderator but rather a friend, but I think it deserves mentioning here.  Hey, maybe we should think of each other as friends.  Maybe I'm not always so offbase but it just takes a while to get it right.

All the Moderators are amazing at what they do here.

Paris, I love you no matter what you are.
Sluff and Bajanne are always there to fix and guide.
I miss Boxman, too.
Rerun is someone I feel close to, even though we've never met.
And the extra step(s) Karol takes to call members who have not been on in a while, or contact member personally to check on them in the hospital, after transplant, etc. is just unheard of.  All the while keeping down the fort at her home with her family.

I'm sure I've missed someone...sorry.

Moderators are amazing.   :2thumbsup;
