Title: my center is gonna ruin my access!
Post by: sullidog on January 19, 2010, 07:03:32 PM
I'm tired of the techs/nurses in my center sticking the same area all the time! I have a graft and as far as I know grafts aren't suppose to be stuck in the same areas over and over because it will tear them. However the techs/nurses like to stick the same area which has caused it to be very brewsed. Mind you my graft goes pretty far up my arm and they always stay at the bottom.
Unfortunetly I'm blind so self canulation probably isn't something I can do. Any ideas on what to do? I even told this lady the other day  because I had an insision where they did my thrombectomy not to stick near the insision and guess what she did? She stuck near the insision!
What should I do they are gonna ruin my graft!

I would speak with the charge nurse or the FA. You are right about not sticking in the same spots on grafts. Let them know you are upset. Make them rotate sites.

I would definitely talk with the head nurse. This is not good practive. They should be using rope and ladder technique. p 36 of link
Check out the following:  Cannulation Camp  to read on how to care for your fistula/graft. Perhaps show it to the person sticking you.....
