Title: Hepatitis C and dialysis
Post by: kamalshah20 on December 19, 2009, 08:25:14 PM
Hi all,

I have been HCV positive for the last 4 years. I was wondering what the prognosis was for folks on dialysis with HCV. I read somewhere that people with HCV not on dialysis proceed to liver cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma and eventually require a liver transplant. For people on dialysis, this period is much shorter - around 5 to 10 years. Is this really true?

What happens if you can't get a liver transplant?

Thanks
Kamal

Hi kamalshah20, I don't know any thing, but there is a renal neph on here called "kidneydoc" if you asked him that question he would answer. You can also send him a personal e-mail.

Although it's my husband who is on dialysis, I have recently just finshed treating for Hep C. I have learned TONS AND TONS about it and also how a person with ESRF would be effected & their regards to it's treatment. I will e mail you right after the holiday.
