Kit, I am with you. Christmas should be just a quiet and lovely day with your family and a nice meal to go with it. A day to remember the reason for the season, not all this gobblydegook that goes along with it. All the rushing around and the baking and the shopping is too much for me and I am beginning to resent it. We might go all out this year tho and put up our nativity scene in the bay window.

Let's all do it!   I got the tree (it ain't real) out of the closet and bottom part standing.  Whew!  It was harder than last year.  Was it 7 months of dialysis, too much or too little Epogen, or perhaps, another year older?  No, people! Last year's turkey wasn't in there.

Red lights on back patio (show thru living room) and white everywhere else... What you think?

I'm excited and amazed at how many on my street already have outside lights up.  It's going to be a good Christmas.

I've already taken out some of the Christmas decorations... just not the tree yet. That will happen next weekend probably. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about remembering the purpose for the holiday and lessening the commericialization of it, but I don't think decorations and the tree are gobblydeegook.

I think they enhance the season and family get togethers. I'll always remember one of our family get togethers when my hubby's sort of adopted son and his wife and their then 2 year old daughter came to our house. She was fascinated with our beautiful lighted tree and her dad and her spent at least a 1/2 hour cuddled up in our recliner just gazing at all the ornaments and lights. I had debated on whether or not I should put up the tree and do all the decorating because I was feeling pretty grinchy that year (very tired due to dialysis and still having to work..) but I'm so glad I did.

I'm with you, Karen! I'm ready for the festivities!

Yea Karen!  I love Christmas  :cheer:

I put my decorations up last week even before Thanksgiving.  I figured I better climb up on that roof while it was still (sort of) warm...  I have had the Christmas station playing on my radio for almost 2 weeks now  ;)

I pray my family will have as blessed of a get together as we just had for Thanksgiving!  ...and that all of you will have a very special time with family & friends celebrating Jesus' birth.

Hmmm...I'm pretty sure egg nog is out, but I love it too!  Just go heavy on the rum, light on the cream, and take some extra binders  >:D

What's a Manhattan?

I'm decorating slowly. I have a poinsetta and I have my snowmen but on my steps. Sometime next week I will put my village set on my fireplace and put up my wreaths, etc.  Just have to talk hubby into doing the outdoor lights. I did most of them myself last year!!!  My tree won't go up until the week before Christmas because I have a real one!!  Let's post pics of our decorations like we did last year!!  I enjoy Christmas at school.  I always have a day and get parent volunteers to come in and help make Christmas decorations for our tree and some Christmas crafts.  The students always love it. Think I will make some cookies with them this year too seeing I only have 12 students. I'll probably put up the tree at school next week so that they will be able to put their ornaments on it when they are made.

Tree is up... all of it and lights are working.  All but very top branches are "fluffed" out.  I have to go to garage and get the ladder.  Tomorrow night I'll have to make something good to drink and get neighbors over to put on ornaments.

I'm not even tired.  But not doing anything else tonight.  It is so cold here it feels like Christmas and the weather man said it could snow Thursday or Friday.  Well, he said possible but not probable.  This is Texas after all.  I heard it snowed in El Paso last night..... Kelly?  Who else is from El Paso?

It did snow in El Paso!  :yahoo; El Paso is my hometown! I miss it so! It snows just about every year at least once during winter and it is so beautiful when the Franklin Mountains are covered in snow dust! It's nice to see something different than dirt and rocks which is what you normally see in El Paso.  :rofl;

Got this in my email today  :santahat;

Read the story before looking at the picture!!

Well, there is good news and bad news about my Christmas decorations this year.

Good news is that I truly out did myself this year with my Christmas decorations. The bad news is that I had to take him down after 2 days. I had more people come screaming up to my house than ever. Great stories. But two things made me take it down. First, the cops advised me that it would cause traffic accidents as they almost wrecked when they drove by. Second, a 55 year old lady grabbed the 75 pound ladder almost killed herself putting it against my house and didn't realize it was fake until she climbed to the top (she was not happy). By the way, she was one of many people who attempted to do that. My yard couldn't take it either. I have more than a few tire tracks where people literally drove up my yard.

Kind of feel like I gave in to the  man by taking him down but my neighbor did confirm to near miss accidents on the busy street next to my house. I think I made him too real this time

So it was fun while it lasted ....

I am tempted to make one of those in a Santa suit... sleigh on the roof, Santa hanging on the gutter.

I'm thinking I've been a bit too maudlin lately -- even for my own taste.  I want a Santa coming off the roof leaving with a bag (like he's robbing the house)... carrying a wide screen tv, stereo equipment with string down wires... hehe.  Something dropped on the ground below.  Somebody could do that???  That is so cool.

hehe.   I have a little one, a foot or so tall, who says "I've got a special surprise for you"  and then he turns arouund, drops his pants and moons you.  A la Sir Ken.   :sir ken;

And that is just so rude... who wants it?

Speaking of Christmas spirit:  Who'll make hot ginerbread with lemon/rum sauce and let me come over????  Continental US only as I have to use FFM.

I finished, the Tree just at the same time, He was done Napping. I asked Him how it looked and He said, " That Tree topper is Leaning a little to the Left " " Now, it's Leaning to much to the Right " " Push it up a little " No, Pull it down a little " ------ Christmas is Here!  Let the Fun, begin!   :clap;

We put up our tree yesterday.  Step daughter and her family came for the weekend.  They live about two hours away.  Both the grand kids were "taken" with the tree.  The three year old could grasp the concept of not to touch the tree, but eh one yeaer old just couldn't quit get it.  Yesterday afternoon, when no one was looking he walked up to the tree grabed an orament (a pengiun) and walked over to his grandmother and handed it up to her.  This is particuarly funny as she collects pengiun related objects.

 :clap;  Love the ditto!

There's a guy in Grand Rapids who did the whole LED synced to music show with his house last year.  The neighbors were unhappy because of the traffic backups.  So this year, he convinced them to let him do all the houses, and the music is synced to several songs that travel through the whole neighborhood to keep the traffic moving.  He spent $35,000 of his own money to buy all the lights and computers.  (Sounds wasteful, but they put out collections bins and have collected more than that for a local charity already.)  I wanted to go see it, but it was over an hour away from my sister's house - kind of a long drive for 10 minutes of viewing!

Thought you might enjoy this, it is pretty funny.....
Type in any Christmas song and see what the little puppets do.   Also, type in any non-Christmas song (I typed in Happy Birthday) and you'll get a kick out of the response.

Here's an excellent Christmas recipe!

Jose Cuervo Christmas Cookies

1 cup of water

1 tsp baking soda

1 cup of sugar

1 tsp salt

1 cup or brown sugar

4 large eggs

1 cup nuts

2 cups of dried fruit

1 bottle Jose Cuervo Tequila

Sample the Cuervo to check quality.

Take a large bowl, check the Cuervo again, to be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink.

Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one peastoon of sugar. Beat again.

At this point it's best to make sure the Cuervo is still ok, try another cup just in case. Turn off the mixerer thingy.

Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Pick the frigging fruit off the floor.

Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaters just pry it loose with a drewscriver.

Sample the Cuervo to check for tonsisticity.

Next, sift two cups of salt, or something. Who geeves a sheet.

Check the Jose Cuervo.

Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts.

Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find.

Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner.

Finally, throw the bowl through the window, finish the Cose Juervo and make sure to put the stove in the wishdasher.

Cherry Mistmas !
