Title: Mayo in Jax, FL
Post by: BrandyChloe on November 08, 2009, 04:42:28 PM
Well, just go the news on Friday that my brother has been approved to donate a kidney to me. (He was my first donor to be tested.) Not sure of the transplant date yet as he one of his kidney tests came back with only 65% function (not eligible to donate) but Mayo said it didn't match other tests so they re-did it and it came back with 90% function. This (rightly so) made my brother nervous as his donor nurse couldn't tell him why the tests were so different so he has an appointment with one of the doctors on 11/27 to discuss and request a third test in case he still isn't comfortable. Now, I wouldn't think Mayo Clinic would approve him unless they were pretty darn certain all was well but I want my brother to be at ease with this.

Has anyone on this board had a transplant at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville? In reading some of these posts, I'm getting nervous about the care I may receive. I have a kidney buddy here in Jax that had her transplant at Shands Gainesville and she was totally happy with the whole process (and still is).

Honestly, while I am not enjoying PD (going into my third week) I'm starting to get nervous about the transplant. Some of the stories I have read on here make me nervous for what's to come!

Congrats on your brother being approved to donate  :clap;  I can understanding him wanting a 3rd test to confirm his kidney function, its strange that the 2 tests came back so different, but certainly things can happen.

I'm just beginning the process to qualify for transplant, and my brother has volunteered to be tested.  I keep trying to talk him out of it, but he's sure!!  Bless his heart  :)

Please keep us posted on your situation and I pray everything will work out.

Thanks Maker and Rerun.  :waving;

Maker, I tried to talk my brother out of it too but he would have none of that. I would do it for him in a second if the situation was reversed but I'm not good about accepting things like that. God willing the transplant will happen the last week of 2009.
