Title: Becoming discouraged
Post by: lizabee on October 29, 2009, 03:40:40 PM
I went to the transplant office today, to schedule my transplant.  Well, that's what I thought anyway.  The surgeon told me today that since removing my right kidney, my left kidney has pretty much taken over my abdomen.  He doesn't know now if there is enough room for the new kidney (which is coming from one of my best friends and could happen at any available date now).  I am going for a cat scan tomorrow to see if there is a "pocket" for the new kidney, if there's not I am going to have to go through another horrible surgery (did not do too well with the last one) and recover again before we can even think about the transplant.

Positive thoughts and prayers appreciated, that when they look tomorrow, they will see enough room!

You've sure got my prayers & I'm sure from everyone else here as well. Oh yes, you must feel very discourged. We put a lot into our mental state when preparing & readying ourselves for different situations. The let down can feel tremendous, but keep in mind there just may be a 'pocket" available. Tomorrow you will know I assume after the cat scan. I will pray & hope all goes well.

Oh, what discouraging news!  I had both mine taken out so I can understand what your recovery fears are.  It isn't an easy recovery.  My sister has PKD and they left her kidneys in and found room, so I'm positive they will find room in you for a little bitty kidney.  :)  Henry Ford surgeons told my sister that they have never seen kidneys as big as hers.  I swear they just like to scare the h*ll out of us and it always seems to be not as big of a deal as they always make things seem.

Good luck and congrats on your upcoming transplant.

BTW.....Take the mask off so we can see your face.  :)

I never had my native kidneys out, but I just had my transplanted kidney out and it was awful.  I know getting the native ones out is about 1000 times harder, so I can not imagine what you are going through.
I am wishing you luck and sending many prayers for good news.
