Title: Is this unreasonable??
Post by: karen547 on October 29, 2009, 04:14:31 AM
I wrote my head manager a note asking if on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays I could only be scheduled for 4 hour shifts because on MWF, I do Dialysis and to be at work at 8AM and work till 4pm or do the night shift from 5-11PM is a bit much on me physically at this point. Is this asking a lot?

Thanks  :flower;

I don't think it is asking too much -- especially if you are proving that you are a reliable employee -

In to-days mode they really should be falling over backwards to accommodate you. Have you explained all about being on hemo to them, do they understand what you have to go through. I do not think you are being unreasonable to expect your wishes to be at least considered.

If I recall correctly, you are now considered disabled because of your illness, so they have to make some accommodations for you.  You might want to check in to the Americans with Disabilities Act to see what you can ask for.

Karen, it is definitely not asking too much, but sometimes managers can have funny reactions to things (this was my experience).  If you are in the States you should be protected by the ADA as Peleroja says.
You are not required to give the manager a reason, but I found things a lot easier once I told my managers about my illness....made them much more accommodating.  Good luck!
