Title: Joint and bone stiffness
Post by: BETTY55111 on October 15, 2009, 05:28:52 AM
I don,t know if this has anything to do with Dialysis or not, but I have been having a stiffness in my legs when I am walking or going up or down stairs. When I get in my SUV I have to literally lift my leg up with my hands. I have noticed this since I have been on PD. I am going to the DR. next week and I am going to tell him about it. I have told the nurse who does not seem to be concerned.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Of course the nurse was not concerned.  I was not her that was suffering!   >:D

I was on prednisone for 17 years with my transplant, so when I lost the transplant they tried and tried to take me off prednisone.  I'm still on 2mg a day.  Without it I'm really stiff.  My point is I think everyone should be on 2mg of prednisone.  That stuff is a miracle drug and 2mg is nothing.

Just a thought.  Ask your doc if a low dose of prednisone would be helpful.

Of course there are side affects that healthy people shy away from.  You are not healthy!  You are in kidney failure and on life support.  If prednisone will help, who cares if you "may" have whatever down the road.  At least that is how I see it.

We have tried and tried to get Sharon off Prednisone, have finally settled on 3.75mg (I cut a 2.5 & a 5mg tablet in half to get that dose), her Neph says that good kidneys put out about 5mg a day naturally so this is a maintenance dose that seems to work for her, the side affects aren't so bad at this dose.
One of our nurses had a good saying about pred - the good news is that the pred is working, the bad news is the pred is working.......
