Title: Teen/Young Adult Section
Post by: Ladystardust24 on October 11, 2009, 01:58:31 PM
I thought this would be  nice addition to the forums!

There seems to be a few "young adults" here.. I think its a good place for some of us who are younger or have experience being young and with CKD... we can share ideas,advice.. and general lifes woes.

How does dialysis or frequent medical visits interact with your life?

What do you tell people when they ask?

Making friends and/or dating?

dealing with school/friends/family/relationships along with medical things?

Some ideas to start with... Anyways I hope this is a start to a beautiful thing  :bandance; < i like the forbidden dancing banana! hehe!

OK I'm old enough to have a teen offspring(or older) - wince - but I thought I'd throw my two cents in.

I first thought it was a great idea - because I am sure younger members - and we have a few - might feel weird/uncomfortable posting to general threads for any number of reasons, and a section for them might be appropriate, but I also feel Chris makes a very good point too...

I mean everything young adults have to face apply to everyone else too - like coping with the disease, dating, weight gain/loss, coping with the diet, family/friend issues etc.

I can see both sides. Maybe a section for teens might be a good idea - perhaps we need to ask our younger members to give a vote about what THEY would like - if they think it would be useful or not.

At one time we had a teen/young adult section on this site. However it was not used, so it was closed and the threads moved to other areas.  I am sur eour admins can take another look at this idea over time.
