Title: Ended up in A&E yesterday?
Post by: billybags on October 08, 2009, 04:49:44 AM
My husband still thinks he can do what he use to, its a man thing. He asked me to help him move a television from in the lounge, we were having a new carpet. I said it was to heavy, it was one of the old type and asked him to get a friend to help move it. Suffice to say he said we would do it. I ended up catching my slipper on the carpet grip and just sailed backwards and bounced on to the ceramic tiles in the hall. I thought I had broken my hip. Sent for ambulance who whisked me to A&E no bones broken but I have heavy bruising and a pulled groin.I am now going around on crutches feeling sorry for my self. Why dont you men listen to us when we say "dont do this". The tele is broken. Baa

Thanks every one for your concerns, going around on crutches is no joke.Today all my bones ache, I feel creamcrackered. Guess who's still doing the cooking with crutches in reach.Husbands gone off to hemo this morning so I am doing a bit of carding, can't do any thing else. Oh he has managed to get the TV working, all the casing is bent and he says its OK  :banghead; I am making a claim on the insurance, I am going to have alight weight LCD one.

Yay on the lightweight LCD!!!   We have one and it's an amazing picture as well as light enough I can pick it up with one hand.

I sympathize with you on the crutches and cooking.  I broke my right ankle last April (doing chores around the farm) and was on crutches for 2 weeks and then in a wheelchair for another 2 weeks.  Then in a cast until the end of June.  It sucked!  I still managed to do all the cooking but some of the cleaning had to be let go.  But it can be useful when you just don't feel like doing something..... ;D

Hoping you have a speedy recovery but don't rush it!   :cuddle;

Hi every one, Just an update about my accident. I am not using the crutches as from yesterday, I found them so tiring. I got my husband to borrow a wheel chair from the old peoples centre, "bad idea" I needed to go to the shops, I was pulling my hair out. What an eye opener that was. Alan was trying to run into every thing, he was under the impresion that people moved for you when you was in a wheel chair but nooooooooo they do not. After half an hour I was glad to get back home. We did not hit any one, I don't think we did. I am still very very sore, walking around is still painful. Thanks every one for asking.

You poor thing!...

As a wheelchair user myself, I know what you mean about people not being aware of what's going on around them...

They usually move pretty quickly for me... Might have something to do with the fact that I use one of these....  ;D

Maybe fifty stone of me and wheelchair, thundering towards them at ten kilometers (6.25miles) per hour scares them into moving... Can't think why!... :rofl;

Get well soon....

God bless...

Darthvadar, It certainly opened my eyes about wheelchair users. I will be more considerate in the futere.

It amazing what an eye-opener a short stint in a wheelchair can be!...

I deliver Disability Awareness Training, and one of the things I do is get some participants to travel around the building in my chair... Some of them come back ashen-faced at the difficulties they face in negotiating the building...

By the way, I just had a call from my Occupational Therapist... My new chair is being modified to do my usual nifty speed... I think this coming at them will get them moving.... Bit space age, eh???... This one has a huge advantage over my present chair... It has an elevating seat, so I can reach things that are at a height... In fact I can reach things using this that I can't reach standing up... Yippie!....

I hope you heal very quickly, and are soon back to your usual self... Enjoy your new TV too when you get it... I got a 42" Flatscreen for my birthday... It's GREAT!... Mind you, Mum uses it a lot more than I do... Keeps her amused while she does her dialysis!...
