Australia is one of the countries currently rolling out a mass-vaccination program for swine flu. I think this may be an overreaction for the majority of the population, but they are particularly urging high-risk people to get the vaccination which I think is a good idea. Many of the deaths that have occurred here have been in people with underlying conditions.
I have been trying to get hold of my neph lately, but haven't spoken to him yet. Does anyone know if transplant patients can have this vaccine? I am aware that there are a number of vaccines we cannot have. Also, what do others here, whether on dialysis or transplant pateints, plan to do regarding the vaccine?
-
I plan on getting it. I am ersd without transplant.
-
Doc told me to get it since it was not a live vaccine.
-
I'm planning on it. Just waiting for the unit manager to get back from being away to see if it is something they will administer for us, or if we need to go organise it for ourselves.
-
I will take the H1N1 vaccine when it is offered.

Our staff gets their this coming week and then ours start...two but one per week.
HEHE. Wonder if I can stick the staff?

Len and I both got the regular flu shot last week but the transplant center hasn't made a decision about the swine one yet. It's on my list of things to do Monday so I guess we shall see.
-
I intend to get it.
In my dialysis center, we already had at least one tech come down with definite flu symptoms, including shaking, chills, fever of 103 Fahrenheit. She told me she caught it from a patient who had the same symptoms.
In New England, it's unusual to get regular flu in September (flu season usually starts around December). So I wonder if this tech had H1N1 flu.

I got the regular flu shot this week at dialysis. It was probably just saline! :P

Neither has mine. But I figure it's so new and not fully tested, they'll probably hold off for one year. I will wait and see and already had the flu vaccine September 12 since the pharmacy called me to see if I wanted one. That was new for them to do that, but great.

our regular flu shouts are supposed to be available next week. i sure hope so as i want mine before i leave for oregon. there has been no word on h1n1. nobody knows nothing.................hmmmm, now why do i find that surprising.

. nobody knows nothing.
Kind of sums up most things, doesn't it?

Hubby had I always have the regular flu shots and we plan to have the H1N1.

Otto is skipping the flu shot again, and said no to h1n1 also.
