I just want to tell all the young women out there my story. I was engaged once but he cheated on me and that was over and i never thought i would find someone who would love me for me with all my health problems (kidney failure and dialysis). I dated a lot and as soon as the guy knew about my health and the possibility of not having kids they all just wanted to be friends. I thought that was going to be the story of my life forever! I prayed that id find someone. My dream came true when i walked into a starbucks...yes ladies i said starbucks. This handsome man was staring at me so i smiled and thought what does this freak want staring at me so much want. I was gonna take my coffee to go and he asked if i would stay and talk to him and have my coffee there. Sceptical i said ohh allright. We talked for hours! we exchanged numbers we dated and after every date i was waiting for him to say can we just be friends? but he never did. I learned that he was a paramedic then switched careers to police officer so i thought he is a helper so maybe he wont leave me. So i told him everything. He hugged me and swore he would never leave me because of my health. He proposed september 9 2008 we got married March 21 2009. I just want the not so healthy young ladies and women to not give up on finding love. Its a magical and wonderful feeling that even helps you get and feel better. I truely believe that there is someone out there for everybody. So dont give up.

I second that! My husband has been with me for 20 years. We started dating when I was on dialsyis. He was with me through the transplant and married me even though we didn't know if we could have children. There are good men out there who can see beyond your illness and love you for you.

This is a great thread. I know a special lady who has these thoughts. it is true there is someone for everyone.

your welcome i hope this story inspires not just young women but young men also that there is someone out there for them who will love them and care for them healthy or sick. Also my hubby asked me to marry him and set the date perfectly because my dad died 2 months after we were married so god gave me that chance to have my dad walk me down the isle and to have the very special father/daughter dance that i always dreamed of. It all just worked out perfectly. I miss him dearly but i have my wedding video and pictures to look back on and smile.

haha yes i do have to thank starbucks, but mostly i think it was the man upstairs who brought us together. He proposed so sweet too. He proposed on the day that i most hated sept 9 2003 because i had a sudden cardiac arrest that day and a year after that on that day i found out my then fiance cheated and got her pregnant so everytime sept 9 came around my now husband knew i hated it so he decided he didnt want me to hate that day anymore so he proposed on sept 9th 2009. We went to cheesecake factory. then we went for a walk on the beach. ( i always wear the ring my godmother gave me) i was wearing my ring and he asked if he could see it he put it on his pinky im thinkin hmmm hes sizing for a engagement ring YESSSS i was thinking then he stuck it in his pocket i was like heyyy thats my godmothers ring id like it back he said ok and pulled out "a ring" and put it on my finger it took me a good minute to look down and see it was a beautiful diamond engagement ring and he proposed it was the cutest thing ever! Then we went to my mom and dads to let them know. I LOVE SEPT 9th =)

This is a fantastic thread and should give everyone wondering about their love lives and kidney failure positive re-enforcement that it's not the end of the world and there IS hope. I would also remind everyone out there of our own Tamara and Allan - not only has he stuck with her through 8+ years of dialysis and KD, but donated a kidney to her, and they are currently engaged. What more beautiful story (apart from the one above) could you want?
hmm I might just wander into a starbucks and buy me a frappe. I wonder which has the least potassium? hmm Vanilla Bean???? :rofl;

Great story!! Back when I was dating, I would always tell a possible date about my health problems before hand, that way they could run far away if they wanted and it wouldn't be a big deal. I've actually only rarely had that happen and the guy was a jerk anyway. So everyone out there remember that the majority of decent people out there will not care if you suffer from health problems.
I met Joe right after my first transplanted kidney failed in 2004. He went with me to the the dialysis clinic to have my initial consultation, even though we had only been dating a week. He has been there for me through many surgeries and years of dialysis. Eventually, he donated his kidney to me. We've been together for five years now! So, don't let this illness stop you from living as a "normal" person does.

I saw this thread some days ago and thought it was a newspaper article which I said I read later. Didn't realize it was a personal experience! And so beautiful! Your husband is a hero! Look how he changed Sept 9 around for you!! My prayer is that you continue to grow in love with each other every day. Thanks for sharing something so awesome with the IHD family.

This is really just the beginning (and a wonderful one at that) but there will be cloudy times and may your commitment to each other carry you through each and every one of those. You brought a smile to my face! Its great to hear you're enjoying life! Many people with kidney disease or any disease for that matter feel that their disease holds them back from truly enjoying life.
