Title: Bipolar and Kidney Transplant
Post by: urbftball58 on September 03, 2009, 10:00:03 AM
Does anyone out there know if I will be denied a kidney transplant because of my bipolar.  I have a genetic kidney disease and will need a new one.

I haven't heard of anyone being denied due to being bipolar. The main concern is that the patient be able to keep up with taking their immunosuppressants every 12 hours. Being non-compliant with other meds or care is what could be an issue for anyone.

They will look into your compliance with your medication and if you are already on dialysis they keep track to see if you attend every session.  Compliance it a big concern.  Are you going to take care of the kidney that is given to you?

Best of luck.
