Got the call while at dialysis this morning. Coordinator said the organs had not been harvested yet, so still needed a visual inspection to ensure that they were viable for transplant. I'm packed, my two best friends are scrambling to get off work and pack so they can get here and join my wait, and hopefully drive me the 4 hours to the hospital. Bouncing off the walls, trying to settle down and be patient, in case this one isn't for me. . . .
Aw, heck, never mind settling down!

Wishing you the VERY VERY best, i hope this is the set for you...
Sending positive thoughts that you will soon be on your way to a life free of dialysis.

I am pacing the floors. Trying to keep busy, but just keep coming back to IHD. :waiting;
-
I first read something in "who loves IHD the most" about you waiting for information about transplant... then I had to "stock" you in the members list to find your profile, and read your last post.... which is this one!!!!!!!!
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited for you :pray; Please dear God let :pray; this be JBeany's perfect match :pray;

Hope jbean is the one and a good match. Also hoping she feels the same way I did when I woke up right after the transplant with normal sugars and a clean feeling.
-
Still waiting here. Just talked to the coordinator as she was leaving for the day. She gave me her pager number. Apparently, the hold up is that they are still trying to match all the available organs, and they have not yet gotten everything paired up. Nothing has been harvested yet. (Okay, that's the best way I can think to put that. Someone, somewhere, is still breathing on a machine. God bless him and his family.) The waiting continues. . .
-
S*** I was so hoping you were there now but still OK, the words no go are nowhere in sight. I hope you're calmer than I am.
-
You are right, Jbeany. You (we) are waiting while another family is saying goodbye. We love you and want so much for this to be your kidney and pancreas :cuddle;
-
:cheer: :cheer:
Oh JB that is the best way to start my morning!!!! I am now bouncing off the walls with you and Monrein. :pray; :pray; :pray; :pray; :pray; :pray; :pray; :pray; :pray; :pray;

Wow how exiting. Someone the other day asked on a thread if anyone had had the call while they were at dialysis - and now here you are! Thinking of you and fingers crossed.
-
:stressed; :pray;
-
I hope it is your turn JB!
:pray;
-
:pray; jbeany, real hard. We got the call at 2:30 am Wednesday morning and admitted by 9 that morning and waited until Thursday after lunch for the kidney to arrive. It was the most stressful wait I have ever been through. :stressed; Thinking good thoughts and sending tons of prayers and bless that donor and their family. :cuddle;
-
JB, I almost jumped out of my chair when I read your post....
I am thinking of you... I know that the wait is excruciating, but no matter what, you are getting phone calls. The clock just started ticking a lot faster and a lot louder.

I too am bouncing around after reading this.. just what I needed as I prepare for yet another D session and hoping it is not as bad as the last... I have a smile on my face(both from the thought of JB getting a transplant and that I'm bouncing around with a bunch of IHD women and that thought sounds kind of fun to me >:D).

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yahoo; :yahoo; :yahoo; :yahoo; :yahoo; :yahoo; :yahoo;
I had been thinking about JB all through my dialysis treatment and hoping this was her time and she would be released from that!!! Fingers crossed the K & P transplant goes well (interestingly I was telling one of the senior nurses about JB today and she claimed with a K & P transplant you supposedly don't need as "good" a match on the kidney to make it work well)....
Hoping all is well for JB! Will be checking back for more updates (and thank you to ex-hubby for the update!!!)
-
Okay, It's update time. She got to U of M transplant center at about 12:45 this morning. The did tests on her until about 5:30, everything went great there. It is now 9:40 and she has been in surgery for a few hours. They said this type of dual transplant can take up to 14 hours. I'll update when I know more. Thank you all for your support.
-
Good news!
Thanks for the update.
It sounds like a marathon........ Thanks for being there for her.
I hope everything goes well!!!!!
When she wakes up give her my love and gently hugs......
Thinking of you!

HERE'S THE NEWS!!!! The docs at U of M kicked in the afterburners on this one. She is out of surgery and in recovery. EVERYTHING WENT PERFECT!!!! The docs said all the weight she's lost the past few months made all the difference. As far as they can tell both organs are working. She'll be in recovery another 4-5 hours and then in ICU. I'll post more as I here.

Boy I miss a lot when I sleep to much!
Great News there! :yahoo; :clap;
JB surgery started the same time mine did, next thing I knew it was night time. Hopefully she felt a difference when she woke up. Forgot if JB was wearing a pump or not, but they took mine off way before surgery and let my blood sugar rise. It was in the 500 range before I was knocked out and felt that high blood sugar. After waking up though I felt it was much better along with the body feeling clean and that's what I hope JB felt. :2thumbsup;
-
Yea! Yea!
Rah! Rah! Sis boom Bah!
Best news of the day!!!!

Okay here's the latest. She's out of recovery and in her own room. SHE IS PEEING!!!!!!! As much as you can through a tube anyway. She's still really out of it, docs said she needed tons of rest. Probably wont know more until tomorrow sometime. Thank you all for your support, as soon as I talk to her in person I'll tell her that her IHD family sends thrie best! God bless you all.

I looked up Ann Arbor Michigan at the U of M Transplant Center. And I can't see a place to e-mail patients :'(
-
Important news flash: jbeany is making her own pee. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
This is jbeany's sister, writing from U of M transplant care with EXCELLENT news. She received a kidney/pancreas combo, and both appear to be working WONDERFULLY!!! She went into pre-op about 6:30 am Thursday, and was in recovery about 1:45. Her doctor was very happy with the organs and how well the surgery went. Her dedication to losing weight has really paid off! She was moved out of the recovery area about 7:00 Thursday night.
Her cret. levels are at 5.6, and she is no longer receiving insulin because she's levelled off at right about 100. :)
She's still sleepy, only waking for a few minutes at a time, but of course she wanted to make sure everyone here was updated. They should have her sitting up this afternoon. Right now she's dealing with some nausea that's making it hard for her to move around, but the meds for that should kick in soon.
I don't see anywhere that you can send emails to patients here, but as soon as she's up and around, you know she'll be trying to get to a computer. :2thumbsup; :2thumbsup; :2thumbsup; :cuddle; :bow;
-
Thank you so much for keeping us updated. As you can tell, we care about her very much. We'll be here waiting for more updates :2thumbsup;
-
:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: Thank you for the update!
I am practically crying every time I see an update - this really feels like a family member!
{{{HUGS}}} to JB!!!
-
I spoke to the hospital gift shop and they said they do balloon bouquets. There doesn't appear to be any way to email greetings to her.
:bestwishes; :bestwishes; :bestwishes;
-
I am so touched, thank god I don't know her personally because I am not sure I could handle it!
JB , we are all so proud of you, you handled your dialysis with class and you more then deserve this!!!

Jut got home and went to this thread first. Glad JB is doing better, but hate to hear about the nausea feeling.
To bad we can't send emails or e-cards though. :bestwishes; :cookie; :cookie; :cookie; :cookie; :cookie; :cookie; :cookie;
Bet she will be sick of the liquid diet fast until everything moved around to get both organs in settles down and passes test to start eating solid food.

Great news. Thinking of you and your donor's family :grouphug;

:cheer: My Best Wishes for a smooth transition JBeany! :cheer:

Today's update...j went in for her ultrasound of the fabulous new kidney and the formerly-underworked bladder, and the technician said it was the healthiest one she'd seen for this soon post-op. Her creat. levels are still falling, down to 4.2 this morning. Still peeing in increasing amounts.
Still no actual food...she wants bananas. :bandance; :bandance; :bandance;
She's looking a lot better and can stay awake for longer periods of time now. She even worked up the strength to call our grandmother today...and let me tell you, that's showing some inner strength. ;)
I've passed along all your cheery thoughts, and once she comes to my house she can be back to typing her still puffy, but shrinking, fingers off.
-
how wonderful!!!!! you are doing a great job updating!

Woo Hoo!!!

That's good news especially with the bladder part.
Tell jbean to not rush eating when she can eat solid food. Order whatever she wants, but don't try to eat it all and to quickly. If they want to take the tray away, say NO! >:D :rofl;

-
Awesomeness! Here is a good recovery for JBeany!
-
Great news sweety! Keep up the good work.
NOTICE: You will be very hungry especially if you are on prednisone. You start watching it NOW because you don't want all that weight back on. Food will taste SOOOO good so enjoy each bit and chew 30 times. Enjoy it in your mouth. Let your brain think you are full. Drink lots of water to fill you up.
I ordered a pizza the first chance I got and ate the whole thing and 18 pounds later (that month) I realized there was a problem!
Best of luck to you and your new organs. :flower;
-
I just popped in from home to say
yeah!!!!! :yahoo; :cheer: :2thumbsup;
:clap; :thumbup;
-
:bandance; :bandance; :bandance; had to send the dancing banana for you JB!!!! Otto's 1st "naughty" foods after both transplants was Chinese. After the 1st transplant when he was 22 he gained 40lbs in 2 months :oops; so be careful. I am so happy for you :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;
-
:bandance; :bandance; :bandance; Woo hoo!! Happy dance!!! :bandance; :bandance; :bandance;

wonder how many days you have to stay in after a transplant?
-
:bandance; :bandance; :bandance; :bandance; A bunch of bananas for you!
-
:clap; :clap; So happy for you jbeany!
-
wonder how many days you have to stay in after a transplant?
That is a hard one toanswer kim since we are all different. The docs told me 3 days, but ended up a week and half due to problems developing from breathing tube, the meds, ect.
Hopefully JB won't have to much trouble and will be out soon.
-
Are there any updates on jbeany? I just spent a week in Indian River the week of Aug 17th and meant to give her a call. Now here I am, home in the Lansing area and only an hour and a half from Ann Arbor - is she still there? I could take a road trip tomorrow!
-
No update and once again - a member that I have no contact info for. :banghead;
JB - come here!! :waving;
-
People you better give OKarol your info orrrrrrr ellllseeee~~~!!!!!! :boxing; :boxing; :boxing;
-
wonder how many days you have to stay in after a transplant?
That is a hard one toanswer kim since we are all different. The docs told me 3 days, but ended up a week and half due to problems developing from breathing tube, the meds, ect.
Hopefully JB won't have to much trouble and will be out soon.
Only 3 days for a kidney/pancreas transplant?? My transplant centers both told me at least a week!
-
Here's the latest update. The past few days have been very rough. Thursday she started having a lot of pain. So much in fact that she could barely speak. The docs started poking and prodding around, taking way tooooo long for our comfort but that's normal I guess. By the time yesterday rolled around she was in ICU with BP problems. After an emergency surgery yesterday afternoon the docs had fixed a leak and repaired a kink in the bowel. She is still in ICU but recovering. Her BP is still up and down like a roller coaster. All the docs here have been GREAT. We're all keeping our fingers crossed. Her pain is under control now and she is improving. Now that things are more settled we'll make sure the updates are more frequent.
-
:pray; Thank you so much for the update. I pray that JB will turn the corner soon. Let her know that we are thinking of her and will continue to pray the doctors get her fixed up. :cuddle;
-
Oh, my! I hope this takes care of everything and Jbeany will be up and at it soon.
Please let her know that her IHD family is thinking about her all the time.
:flower; :flower;

I had a feeling there might be a problem. Poor girl - I hope they have resolved the pain. :pray;
Thank you for the update. We really miss our girl!
I would love to send her a card - please PM me with an address when you can.Thanks.
{{{HUGS}}} JB!! :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;
-
Sorry to hear about jbean. Can understand why there might be a kink after they told me what they do to implant the pancreas and kidney. I'm not found either of the wait and see logic when something bad is going on especially when there is technology available.
Hope jbean feels better soon :2thumbsup;
-
JB sorry to hear things have been rough............. :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;
-
sorry its been so rough for her- but am ecstatic that she got the transplant and is improving!!
-
Jbeany, get better soon! We miss you! :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;
-
we sure do!!
That would have been very worrying about her pain(specially going on for so long while they figured out what to do) then going into ICU with the bowel problems etc.. yikes.... fingers crossed this is just life's way of making things "interesting" and she will be back on track in no time!!!
-
so pleased that you have had your transplant and praying for a full recovery for you. xxx
-
Here's the latest. Her BP has started to level off and her heart rate is coming back down to a more normal range. Today they are going to try taking her off the heavy duty pain meds and onto something that will make her a little less loopy. So slowly but surely we're getting there. Took a few steps back but are moving in the right direction once again.
-
:pray; :pray; :pray;
-
That's good to hear. :grouphug;
-
Yes! No more backward steps, just moving forward from now on!
:flower; :flower;
-
Oh good news, sometimes I forget that a transplant is a huge deal, with all its up and downs, please send all our love and prayers to your sister, I am sure you are having a week yourself, watching a loved one going through pain is one of the hardest things in the world to do. :cuddle;
-
That's good news, no need to do the hokey pokey in the hospital or is it the whatootzee.

:grouphug; I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Things are looking better. She has been stable enough to move from ICU back to a normal room. Other than that not much new. She was having a little trouble breathing but the docs said it was from the fluids from the surgeries. They have her on meds to help with that. We're all rooting for her! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
-
I hope this is her last move to a room there. She has been through enough already. We diabetics are sure a complicated bunch and don't like make things easy do we? :sarcasm;
-
Sorry to read about the ups and downs and especially the extra surgery. Thinking of you jbeany and would also love to send a card if possible. :grouphug;

Oh JB. One step at a time. Take time to heal. You have been through the ringer.
xoxo
-
Hang in there jbeany! I will keep you in my prayers for a steady recovery. :cuddle;
-
Now is the time that jbeany's family is asking everyone to keep her in their thoughts. Jbeany went in for another surgery today. When the docs got in there they found that a part of her bowel has collapsed and leaked inside her. They removed the damaged bowel and flushed her out the best they could but she is septic and in ICU. The docs said that the next 48 hours are extremely critical and are touch and go. She needs to make it through the next 2 days and then she has a chance. I'm sorry for bringing the bad news. PLEASE pray for her. She's fought too hard for too long for it to end like this. I will update everyone as soon as I hear more about her condition.
-
Sorry to hear and am hoping she pulls through.
-
Oh how I hate reading this news. Jbeany, please know that I'll be thinking of you as hard as I can tonight and sending my strongest positive thoughts your way. We need you back. :( :'( :(

It brings tears to my eyes to see how caring her IHD family is. I talked to her sister this morning who had just talked to the nurse. She said that Janel had a quiet restful night and appeared to be stable. The doctor doesn't make the rounds till later. I should know more this evening. Her sister asked if the ones worrying about her could have some drugs too! Janel is the strongest person I know, we're thinking positive and can't wait for her to come home, besides her kitty really misses her..... I'll post again tonight with more news on her condition.
-
Quiet nights are good news at this point. Thanks for the update. :grouphug;
-
Once again, thank you for the update.
I checked IHD early this morning because I was so worried about jbeany. This is a relief.

Saying a Prayer Today for Jbeany.

Just received an update. She is in very good spirits this morning and doing better. She has a bit of a fluid problem that they are now working on. But she is still stable and fighting all the way. The docs say another few days in ICU for her and then hopefully back to a normal room.

We love any little bit of progress and good news. She is on all our minds daily and someone is always praying for her. Thank you for sharing with us. You can tell how worried we all are. We love her!! :grouphug;
-
That's good to hear about jbeany :2thumbsup;
Rerun this problem is known to happen with a kidney and pancreas transplant because the bowels are moved around, somewhat taken out to connect the pancreas and kidney and then put back in. They won't allow us to eat until the bowels start making sounds and you, well pass gas and have a bowel movement (hard to do when your cleaned out preop and then put on a liquid diet after a few days post op. However a nick is still possible, but go to wonder what they were paying attention to at the time to do that. I wish I asked for pictures of mine, but didn't think of it at the time.
-
very glad to hear things are going better.
-
I loved reading the words "normal room".
-
OMG JBeany what you have been through!
Please get better NOW we miss you and need you :pray; :cuddle;

I spoke to the ICU nurse this morning but Janel was asleep at the time.

I hope all is going well now. Yay! For a transplant!
-
I just had a great conversation with Janel! They've moved her to a regular room from ICU - so that's a good sign! She has had 2 surgeries for bowel blockage/leakage but it looks like that's working out ok. She has not had any solid food for a long time, and is still on IV fluids. Her creatinine has gone down and she's hoping to make more urine over the next day or so. She's very swollen so they did dialysis yesterday, but today she'll get a large dose of Lasix, which should help. She said to tell everyone hello and "I will be back!" It looks like she won't be out of the hospital anytime soon so if you'd like to send her a card let me know I and I will give you her info. She got our balloon bouquet today and thanks everyone, for the prayers too - she says - keep your fingers crossed!
:yahoo; Get well Janel!!!
-
:yahoo; Janel. Thank you so much karol. I have been so worried about her. Those bowels problems are the bee Jesus to get rid of. I keep praying. :pray;
-
That is wonderful news. :cheer: :cheer:
I am :pray; :pray; :pray; she continues to move forward. Get well Janel. :-* :cuddle;
-
Saying prayers that she is well soon and home!
Lasix is an awesome drug. Logey had to have quite a bit of it to kickstart his kidney. His kidney was a bit shellshocked to go from a 19 year old to an 18 month old.

:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

:bandance; Great news keep on getting stronger Janel

I'm send jbean a card tomorrow. I tried to get something funny and the one that's perfect is more meant for a male due to picture of him being in a gown. :o

I sent one today. I make cards as a hobby and hers is just for her! :2thumbsup;
Anything to help her gain strength and get back on her feet!
Go, Jbeany!

Graphics I can do, words I can not unless smart :sir ken; comments :rofl; :rofl;
Forgot they had software to do that. Wish Shoebox greeting cards had that..

Hi everyone, I talked to jbeany today, she is still very weak but hanging on. She still has about 50 pounds of water weight on her. The doctor said that she will be feeling weak for about 2 weeks and then should start to pull out of it. Other than that there is nothing new.
-
Awww poor her... please keep telling her that we all are praying for a speedy recovery and can't wait for her to get back to us!! Is that "normal" for a double transplant to carry so much fluid?
-
Thanks for the update.

Get better soooooooooon.
We miss you, Jbeany!

Hi everyone. I talked to jbeany yesterday and she had a great day, at least as great as it could be. The nurses had her up and walking. She has had all dialysis ports removed. Her water gain is still going down and kidney function is still improving. All things considering a great day. Just wanted to post some good news for a change!!!!
-
:clap; :clap; :clap; :clap;
Good to hear!
-
I (and so many others) have been waiting to hear about these little signs of improvement. Foreign tubes and such being removed is always good. :grouphug;

Thank you for the updates, and the good news. Hopefully every day will be another step forward.
Thinking of you JB!

:2thumbsup; Update on JBeany:
I just spoke to Janel. She's been in the hospital for a month now. Today she's been doing physical and occupational therapy and was pretty tired from all that hard work! She said her creatinine is now 2.8 and the hope is that it will continue to go down. There are no more blood sugar level issues - all is normal - thanks to the lovely new pancreas! She is still retaining a lot of fluid so they will continue to try and remedy that. Janel is very appreciative of the cards and balloons and thanks all the IHD members who have sent her something. I told her we are all pulling for her!
If anyone else wants her address or phone number please send me a PM.
-
I am so glad she is continuing to improve. What a rough road she has had!
Jbeany, I look forward to your return home and to IHD!

If we call her, she'll never get any rst ;D :sarcasm;
Take it easy and don't push yourself to hard jbeany. Just remember to :Kit n Stik; any of those resident doctors who are idiots. ;D

I second the last part. One of the residents when Logan was in the hospital asked me why Logan was on dialysis. Hmmmm..... I don't know, thinking we were bored--Had nothing better to do.

That's bad when they are suppose to be the doctors! Haven't you looked at the chart or have studied a little to know why there is dialysis. Dumb :sir ken;
Hi jbeany :waving;

Hi jbeany :waving;
And yes! Especially when you're in the ER at 3 am after driving 3 hours and he has a hole in his dialysis cath and really just needs to get up to the floor so the dialysis nurse can come and repair it. Errrrrr.... irritating. I actually told them, because we were bored.
and hi Jbeany!!! I hope you are doing well today! any more updates? :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: and some cheerleaders to help cheer you into getting home soon.

I sure hope the recovery happens quickly now. :bestwishes; :bestwishes;

Any news?
I hope you pee like a racehorse!
-
:bump;
Had to come back and reread this today, along with all the other posts on my miserable two months in the hospital, getting my spare parts. It's been 3 years today! I've relearned to walk, I survived 4 months of not being able to eat or drink a thing, and my guts are all nicely tucked back on the inside of me where they belong, after being visible for over a year under a skin graft. (And the skin graft didn't go on for ages and ages, so I had a giant open wound for a long time as well.) I've managed 3 whole years without a rejection episode, even when everything else was going wrong, so I see that a victory, and hope that it means my kidney and pancreas plan to stick around for a long, long time.
-
Definitely a victory.
Awesome
-
You've come a long way JB! :yahoo;
